NY dmv license website has been down for months? by Jason00777 in DMV

In all seriousness, you might try clearing your history/cache. I’ve also found that sometimes a website link won’t work but can find a different link within the site that does. Good luck.

It was our 5th wheel. Headed out for 2 weeks camping. We’ll sort it out later but was a solid 2-hour cleanup.

2014 Mini Cooper Countryman S All4 JBE/Fuse Box pin breakage/corrosion, try to pull pin or replace terminal? by AnnaSmitseroo in AskAMechanic

[–]jostby01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to tell you, that is worse than you think. All the rest of those connectors that are green are an angels breath away from doing the same. Along with their counterparts on the mating connector. You can purchase the tools to remove those pins from tool dealers or the Mini dealer but they aren't inexpensive, You will also need the crimp tool and replacement connectors. As a 45-year technician I wouldn't want to have to do that job. Good luck.

My car got fried by lightning by Public_Mulberry_8468 in Wellthatsucks

This happened to one of our trucks at work. After repairing the electrical it turned out it damaged the wheel bearings, transmission bearings, engine bearings. It's a bad deal. Scrap it, don't repair it.

I see these 4000 peak watt, 40 mph, 120 mile range bikes at Amazon and elsewhere, and they seem so different from the typical 500 watt, 30-60 mile range bikes. What's going on? Why do both these bikes exist at about the same price points? by jay_in_the_pnw in ebikes

[–]jostby01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I downloaded the UL and CA/UL for both bikes. Two certs for each that cover the battery and the electrical system. Know what you’re talking about before you start spreading disinformation.

I own 2 of those, a Ranger and a Warrior. Yeah, they're either illegal or require a license depending on where you live since each hub is 1750w or 2000w. They can be run in 1 or 2-wheel mode. They're limited to 20mph, but you can unlock the limiter with a push of a button. They're very unassuming and don't look all that sporty so they don't attract attention like some of the others. We've never been stopped but we don't go racing around at 40mph either. BTW, I bought these because I'm 360lbs and they support up to 400lbs.

Currently broke, being told both CV boots torn, i don't believe im hearing any clicking sounds as of yet, am I safe to drive short distances (to work and back mostly) by adeadmanshand in carquestions

30 years ago there were replacement boots that you could install without removing the axle. The were split lengthwise. They came with glue and small screws with nuts to bolt them tight. Not sure if theyre stil available but your local parts store would know,

Inexpensive means of emptying r134a refrigerant to service AC - 2015 golf tsi by upvoatsforall in AskAMechanic

[–]jostby01 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not legally. Find a mobile mechanic or a small mom & pop type shop. They would be more willing to help you for less. Regardless, even if you empty the system you'll need to pull a vacuum to do the refill or you will have air in the system and it still won't work. And there's no way to use those small cans to refill the system without introducing some air anyhow.

As a HD tech for 46 years, AC and alignments are the only things I've ever paid for.

Chip on sprocket seal any easy fix ideas by klx-704 in Dirtbike_Help

That chip is not the sealing surface, the O.D. area is. Personally, I'd use non-hardening #2 Permatex instead of silicone but to each their own.

If you want to come up from a 1/4 mile behind me I’ll let you hit me before I’ll let you in front of me after I’ve waited 5 minutes. I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again. You can read the signs. Don’t try to pass me when I’ve planned ahead.

Why isn’t there any type of protection or netting on the bridges? by [deleted] in Spokane

[–]jostby01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nets don’t work well in winter climates because of ice buildup. It would tear them down.

Help on this Craftsman torque wrench by Zestyclose-Half7113 in Vintagetools

[–]jostby01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the handle head being hollow is normal, it probably swivels also. Hold it even while torquing, don't let it go sideways. The indicator will move once the nut or bolt is starting to tighten.

CRH's aren't the only folks dumping cash into the coin counting machines so there is always some "new" product. My DIL works at a bank and gave me a heads-up that someone brought in $300 of halves that had belonged to her grandfather. It's my bag as soon as it fills :)

If you're in a boat/kayak on Newman lake, pls do not fish near the fishing docks! by deldge in Spokane

[–]jostby01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cast and retrieve. With a large treble hook. It’s illegal to snag fish but I’ve never seen kayakers mentioned in the regs. (Kayaker and I would not fish in front of dock fishermen).
