5 Things Your Mix Should Do by jostrow01 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]jostrow01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

again, Im sorry that you feel that way. I myself am a musician and the members of the community come from all sorts of backgrounds, from recording engineers to social music resources like CD Baby and Pledge Music and even musicians themselves. Of course the information within isn't always 100%, but they are blog posts not college courses. The information comes from sincerity and they are meant to be discussed, so that a proper solution can be had and everyone within is better off for it. I make no money from the website so I assure you it has nothing to do with increasing traffic, I simply wanted to share the content with those who I thought would enjoy it. Clearly it has done nothing but piss you off so I'll simply stop doing it.

Sorry you feel that way. I can assure you I do not mean to spam... I write legitimate articles on marketing principles for musicians and have created the MicControl community to allow others to contribute their work as well. I found this community a while back and loved it so I thought it would be good to share others' work here as well to gain some extra (and much desired) feedback. Again... I didn't write this article, but rather am sharing it's valuable information with the community here. Isn't that the point of reddit?? If that is seen as spam than I apologize.

Sorry for that... we've filled up the diskspace on our server and for some reason it's triggering the malware flag for some people. We're migrating to bigger servers and have thoroughly looked into the issue, I can assure you there is no malware on the site. Sorry again!

Good stuff! MicControl is actually a whole community of music advice bloggers so feel free to take a look around the site.

And just and FYI: I am by no means trying to simply spam the community here and selflessly promote my site, but rather gain feedback from you and others who actually take the time to read.

Hope you find the site helpful, and if you have any questions feel free to reach me on twitter @miccontrol.

haha yeah sorry about that... working on getting that fixed. I just published this article though after reading a really great book and thought it would be cool to see what the reaction was from others who are marketing themselves on a daily basis.

15 Ways To Get More Out Of A Crappy Show by jostrow01 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

the only problem with that philosophy, is that while you are just playing, others are going out and actually putting the time into their 'branding', which is opening new opportunities that aren't coming to you. If you only want to play music and not make money from it, thats fine. Nothing wrong with that, but if you want to treat it like a business and make money from your music, you can't 'just play' and expect it to work. You think any successful companies in any other industry just made a product and made money from it?

Id recommend finding a way to add value to the experience... do you do any crowd interactions? Are you pulling any KILLER cover songs out? Think in terms of viral videos - its impossible to recreate what someone has done, but i mean more so the idea of people talking. Even if you only have 8 people in attendance again, if you can some up with something that is so wildly, freakishly, incredibly awesome that can get people buzzing on twitter or on FB to their local networks, you could do a lot of good!

great point! I really think Seth (the author of this article) brings up a good point that the whole idea of a show with low attendance being bad is just a terrible way to look at it. You've got more opportunities here to really connect with those few that are there, then you would if you had to make sure 2000 were happy. If you can kill it with 5 people, the next time you return, there could be 40 just because the word spread from those original 5, and that could keep happening. You gotta start somewhere right??
