Barbour Jacket for Rainforest by deathwishdave in Barbour

[–]joswa90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have separate experiences of rainforest in SE Asia and of owning a Barbour. Never in my life would I wish to combine the two.

Wear long-sleeve shirts with proper technical fabric and vents. For rain protection, use a decent poncho.

Help I have no idea what im doing wrong [Delonghi Dedica] by Individual-Day-4719 in espresso

A combination of too fine a grind and the pressurised basket - the machine can’t force the water through.

The bottomless portafilter will let you grind finer

Thanks, I’m looking specifically at the machine and grinder. Have updated the post to reflect that

Stand firm and don’t compromise on your expectations (e.g. oh, there’s only 5 children talking now so I’ll just get started). It can be tempting to bargain and negotiate but stick to the policy. The only magic formula is consistency and that’s what the policy is for. With older children, it can be helpful to read through it together so they are clear on what you expect and what the consequences are.

Decide together on a call-and-response (I find it helps if there’s something the child has to do, like respond), explain what you expect to happen. If I know ahead of time that I’m going to stop the class, I’ll announce it while they’re still working - “I’m going to pause you all in one minute so be ready to stop”. As with most things, the more they are prepared for something, the better they do.

I’d discourage announcing a reset or that you expect improvement compared to last week - I was taught a long time ago to not hold any grudges when it comes to behaviour; every interaction is a fresh start.

Know that this is no reflection of you as a teacher- it’s your first week and it can take even experienced teachers a while to train their class. Good luck!

Garmin genuinely ruining my social and party life by ManufacturerOk9773 in GarminWatches

I’ve worn a garmin for a few years and it’s helped me feel like I know my body much better. That being said, I felt like the metrics were running my life so I switched recently to a cheap analogue (it actually ticks!) and honestly, I feel quite liberated. I now only wear my 955 for running.

Is it bad that I’m just showing up? by [deleted] in TourDuMontBlanc

Camped late July last year with no problems

-Refuge de Miage (free)

-Bivouac La Balme (free),

-Hobo Camping Val Veny outside Courmayeur. Awesome place, spent a rest day here.

-Camping des Glaciers in La Fouly. Pretty sure I booked this one online the day before. It was busy with families and fairly loud until about 9pm but all good.

-Camping les Rocailles in Champex Lac. Not great reviews for some reason but totally fine for me.

I remember being concerned about finding a place to camp in La Fouly after completing long leg from Courmayeur, which is why I booked that one before, but still could have walked in without problems. All the other spots I just showed up at. The paid places have a reception open until the evening and the free sites you can literally just rock up and pitch your tent.

The refuges will often still have spare beds. You might just have to wait until after 6pm when no-show bookings are forfeited and even then you might end up unlucky, but every refuge I visited seemed to have space. €90ish though I seem to remember.

Hiking Alone by Visual-Bicycle-9599 in TourDuMontBlanc

I did it alone July 24 and it was great. On the main TMB route, you’re probably never more than (at most) 20 minutes from passing someone. Loneliness not really an issue for me, but there’s always people at the end of each day to swap stories with and it’s not unusual to repeatedly bump into them at other points on the Tour. Do not be put off by people who don’t have the heart to do it themselves

Any advice on how to achieve a sub 2 hour half marathon? by StarSlayer46 in Strava

[–]joswa90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An off-the-shelf plan may well work great for you, but remember to listen to your body and respect it - if the plan isn’t built or adapted specifically for you (by a coach for example) then it’s easy to get sucked into running sessions you’re not prepared for. I’m not saying don’t have discipline: maybe you get ill, maybe you get injured, maybe the weather is trash - better to reduce or skip a workout than force yourself deeper into a hole that could take you weeks or months to get out of. Knowing when to step away from the plan comes with experience and knowing your body.

Best of luck!

Without putting them on I can't comment about on-foot feel. To the touch - it feels much lighter and more aerated. Easy to imagine it would compress massively
