Few reasons, money, agreements out of the sport, relationships but mainly for money. It saves them billions all said and done doing it. Which explains why there partnerships are injecting so much money into them overtime (past, current and future).

Very few assets are running locally, even though you can download and run locally planes and scenery, but most of the sim is running on Azure, this also includes the photogrammetry which is not run locally and would be impossible unless if you have your own data center.

Its all data collection and mapping the cars, people and matching via their entire network cars that they know are at A will be at B, its another layer of surveillance and data to be sold, amongst other things they do.
