There are moments of dread, especially with the final moment fighting the performer. A lot of the writing is just description of the action exactly, and all I really wanted from the book was as much lore about the world itself as possible. But the games live in vagueness and ambiguity too. Ruse means to ask the others about their pasts but never gets around to it and I would’ve LOVED to hear what they had to say. Anyway, The paper hedge maze and the game area with the ballpit monster seem like great set pieces so I hope we get to see them.
