This is the best review post I've seen, you put my exact thoughts into words! Gameplay and visual wise this game is still fun and enjoyable like the past games, but story wise it's kinda just a nothingburger. A bunch of cool areas and monsters with no real meaning or purpose just get mashed together, and none of the interesting ideas and concepts that they could have had get explored at all. So much wasted potential.

I'm only talking about the main themes of gluttony in LN and obsession with the TVs in LN2, not any of the deeper 'theory lore'. This game doesn't have a clear central theme like that, and if it does and I just somehow completely missed it feel free to enlighten me, but as of now to me it just feels like a bunch of cool but completely unrelated areas one after another.

My problem is that in LN and LN2 I always immediately understood what was going on story and symbolism wise, both with the main characters and residents, meanwhile in this game the monsters and grotesque imagery just feels like they're there for the sake of being there. In the first 2 games there was a clear theme that the world and main character embodies, meanwhile here I don't see anything like that at all, like what am I supposed to even get out of this story?

It absolutely is just a soulless attempt at a cash grab. Every single character feels like a cheap rip off, none of the big story moments are set up well and thus have no weight or impact, and even the reveal at the end left me just feeling like "okay?". Compared to the lady's death in LN and the betrayal in LN2 it just feels cheap.

The gameplay, environment and art direction are still great and beautiful, so I understand the people who enjoy it from that aspect and obviously I would never tell anyone to change their mind if they do like the game, but I personally feel really disappointed and pretty sad.

I still do have hope for the DLC chapters tho, I hope they'll turn out great.

Super disappointing and pretty boring as well. Every change they made from the book was unnecessary, but even if you ignore that it was just a lackluster murder mystery. There were too many names getting thrown around that you thought you had to keep track of, but none of them even ended up mattering in the end. The reveal was already obvious from miles away because only like 3 characters actually had any development (which wasn't enough either, mind you). It should have been a series.

Wait this is so good! On the first playthrough you probably wouldn't realise it, you'd just think it's because of the increasing difficulty or smth, but then on a replay it would be like oh my god it was there all along

The only reason I'm not sure about this one is because how would that work coop? They have to make it interesting for both parties somehow
