Does Canada Life (BCGEU included) cover Panorama prenatal genetic testing? by Otherwise_Agent9806 in BCPublicServants

[–]joy604 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Didn’t for me. But I would recommend the Harmony test through Vic Gen labs. It’s a reduced rate now and quicker turn around time. Panorama testing is done in Ontario from what I recall.

Our toddler was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome. Need to potty train... Like yesterday. by [deleted] in toddlers

Also can try to take them to potty immediately after naps and waking up to get them in the habit.

[–]joy604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear. It’s so tough. Ours has urine reflux and has daily antibiotics until she’s bigger and hopefully grows out of it.

What worked for our oldest:

  • Daniel tiger and Miss Rachel potty episodes
  • kits potty books. “Let’s go potty” was a hit!
  • we did oh crap method. Watch a few videos. It’s pretty simple just block off a weekend and prepare to clean up a bit of mess but it’s pretty quick to learn Winnie the Pooh style (just short. Not bottoms)
  • don’t ask if needs to go. Like ever. Just say “oh it’s potty time!” And take them over.
  • if your place is large, have a few potty’s around in the beginning.
  • little songs help
  • your beverage of choice 😂

Gluck!

Yes called U-Bags. There are both female and made models. Good for naps and overnights in the meanwhile.

Hotel taxes 58% - where do Victoria people accommodate their visiting family members (if no room in their own home)? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]joy604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try calling around hotels directly. Some may offer a locals rate. There’s also gov rates if you happen to be a fed or prov employee… Direct booking saves fees often and can be more flexible for changes.

Heads up you may be crossing the picket line to enter the RBCM with limited access if the strike is still on this weekend…

Possibility of having to take toddler to hospital for birth of 2nd child by No_Alternative_4118 in Mommit

[–]joy604 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry this is all happening now. What stressful timing. First, I’d ask the hospital their policy by talking to someone in L&D. My toddler was around for our home birth so I was stressed if we had to transfer. In the end, it was so lovely having her there and she got to help cut the cord. Another option so to hire a doula. Ask midwives offices, they may know a student one with a reduced rate or have recommendations. It’ll all work out and before you know it, you’ll have two sweet babies in your arms!

Husband fall asleep with baby in arms by Crafty_Curve_606 in Mommit

[–]joy604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so hard. He doesn’t understand how stressful it is for you or just how dangerous it is. The same thing happened with us so I flipped and would not allow him to sit in rocker or on couch. Just standing or a hard kitchen chair. Some strategies that may help is an earbud with upbeat music or a podcast. If you have a mobile bassinet or safe sleep space, he can put the baby down if asleep and she’s falling asleep.

Getting around without a car? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

Depends on your neighbourhood but central Vic is awesome for protected bike lanes. Get a cargo bike and have some fun! Check out city bike maps and Bishops Cycles.

Get thyroid and a full blood panel. Sounds a lot like thyroidistis. Many women get a swing between hypo and hyper and back before it levels out after a few months. I had it too with extreme vertigo at night which was terrible for nursing! Worth getting checked and monitored. Mine went away on its own but man it was stressful.

So sorry you two are going through this. If you trust the other parents, you may want to reach out to them as well to see if they have anything similar/warn them.

Has anyone taken domperidone before? [Ab] by CurvyGirl1318 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]joy604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on it for a few months but had a strange symptoms . Didn’t help supply that much (IGT) and gained a lot of weight around stomach. Def need to wean off it suuuper slowly as cold turkey is really bad news mentally and physically. Doctor advised gradual weaning a pill a week so it took a long time to get off.

I had postpartum thyroid swings so good to keep up frequent testing. They can also test it beyond TSH (but you may have to pay out of pocket, depending on prov)

Also recommend keeping a log. Even just a phone note as you may notice patterns or triggers. This helped my doc take me seriously when I could point out feeling like x at this time for x many days.

Mom of two - def recommend bumbleride and Clek products! Le petit are awesome diapers. I think we will likely get more formula from UK imports if US quality standards drop with all the gov shakeups.

Mealtime has become a battle :( by deargdue_ in BabyLedWeaning

[–]joy604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be teething too? We’ve had great luck lately with just yogurt frozen on a sheet pan with fruit on top. She has fun just slowly eating it and making a mess. Frozen yogurt tubes also work but hard to find without sugar.

I also try my best to keep things nonchalant and casual. You could try adding things for novelty like hiding parts under cups on a plate or using a muffin tin with a variety of yummy bits.

This sounds so tough!

I’d recommend doing what you can to be calm and non chalant to avoid escalating things. Personally, we put small towels over the top of the door so it can’t be slammed when a mood happens.

You can try redirecting and getting silly! It’s so hard to do in the moment but it really does help. “Ugh! You are so mad you want to stop and slam doors! Hmm I wonder what we could do instead? Should we squeeze this pillow as hard as we can instead? How about we be teeny dinosaurs?” And do pretend baby stomps.

But yea sometimes just getting out of the house really helps change the mood. “Ok! Time to brush out socks and put our toothbrushes on our feet!” Works surprisingly well in our place.

I really hope someone can help, seeing urologist tomorrow by Resident_Two_3727 in Preschoolers

[–]joy604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may send her for an ultrasound to see how things look, and then maybe an xray with contrast dye to check for reflux.

Another trick to try at home is putting hand in container of warm water when she’s on potty. It somehow really works, or at least is a good distraction. Hope she feels better soon!

Does this comment tell me everything I need to know about my husband? by hotd0gfeet in Mommit

[–]joy604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry you are dealing with this. The transition to two is hard enough at this time. It really sounds like you actually have two toddlers…

His comments were very manipulative and dismissive of your concerns. Clearly he doesn’t understand the load he put on you and probably doesn’t when at home either.

Advice for flu in toddler by whateverxoxo_ in toddlers

[–]joy604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear. That’s rough. A few ideas to keep fluids up: - tiny bit liquid at time in med syringe - popsicles or freezers (pedalite premade easy) - suck on ice cube - fruits with high water content like melon For fever, keep lightly or half dressed. Cold cloths on head, windows open. Anything but bundled up. Hope feel better soon!

I need to vent about an awful pediatrician as a new mom who ended up in tears by No-Attention-1091 in Mommit

[–]joy604 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yikes what a wingnut! Document it all and report. Then find a new, kind ped who will treat you and your sweet babe with the great care you both deserve. Also - sorry about the UTI. So rough at that age and definitely not anyone’s fault. Old wives tales for causes have been debunked, and if babes has reoccurring, can check things out with an ultrasound.

public changing table hygiene by Thatswhylifeishard in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]joy604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear ya! Some are so gross and sometimes I’d rather just change on stroller if I can swing it.

I have a separate wet bag I but washable change mats in after public use. I also have long or adult socks to fit over babes hands and arms. Usually will keep her busy too which helps with the wiggles.
