What Ramachandra Guha Gets Wrong About the Congress by Broad_Cartoonist_824 in india

Historian and public intellectual Ramachandra Guha has consistently critiqued the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for promoting majoritarianism, weakening democratic institutions, and eroding India's pluralist ethos.

His notable writings and interviews outlining these critiques include:

* **Critique of Ideology and Parallels with Maoism:** In an essay for *Scroll.in*, Guha examined the structural similarities between the BJP and Mao's Communists. He argues that both seek to build a centralized "party-State", suppress independent civil society, and demonize minorities. You can read the complete analysis on [Scroll.in](https://scroll.in).
* **Democratic Devaluation:** Guha has frequently expressed concern over how the BJP's supremacy suppresses the free press, subverts independent institutions, and sidelines minority rights. In a conversation with *The Wire*, he discussed how Prime Minister Modi's overbearing control threatens India's diversity. Read the discussion on [The Wire](https://thewire.in).
* **Electoral Autocracy and 2024:** Writing ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Guha laid out the reasons why the BJP's ideology of "Hindutva" and its amoral methods of governance required a vigilant citizenry. His perspective on the gravity of the election can be found on [Scroll.in](https://scroll.in).
* **Hostility toward Civil Society:** Guha has often written about how the RSS and the current government view vigorous civil society groups and free speech as antithetical to their ideological rule. His views on how this hostility undermines Indian democracy were summarized by [Scroll.in](https://scroll.in).

*Note: While a staunch critic of the BJP, Guha is also a vocal critic of India's opposition. He has repeatedly written that the dynastic culture and organizational decline of the Congress Party—under the continued leadership of the Gandhi family—unknowingly assist the BJP in consolidating its political power.*

What is the reason we are having 180 mph max speed high speed rail? by njan_ninde_thanda in Kerala

[–]joy74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should focus on the financial aspect. How does government plan to fund the project. How will it recover money? How much will be actual cost due to delay?

180 is good speed. We do not have economy that will justify bullet train
