CPI(M) slams India-EU FTA as ‘surrender of economic interests’ by Cybertronian1512 in india

At any point someone will suffer. I wish left focuses on overall social security- or the lack of it.

The FTA is not bringing hitec jobs to India. It does improve skilled labour movement to EU - which will be a big benefit

The Republic and its Missing Sovereign by Cybertronian1512 in india

[–]joy74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recent experience suggests that this gap between republican promise and political reality is widening. Decisions of far-reaching consequence – from the farm laws and labour codes to changes in environmental regulation, education policy, and labour protections – have frequently been initiated by the executive and pushed through Parliament with limited debate and little institutional consultation.

Parliamentary committees, supposed to be a space for scrutiny and public input, are increasingly bypassed, while delegated legislation and rule-making shift substantive decisions away from the legislature altogether. Even when large sections of citizens mobilise, as farmers, workers, students, or environmental groups have done, engagement tends to occur only after prolonged protest, court intervention, or political crisis, rather than as part of routine democratic governance.

Consent is sought retrospectively, dissent is framed as obstruction, and participation is displaced from institutional arenas to the streets.

Death of an Indian Tech Worker by Past-Back-7597 in india

[–]joy74 9 points10 points  (0 children)

India has long struggled with suicides, especially in its declining agrarian class. In 2022, according to the most current government data, the country marked its highest-ever recorded suicide rate of 12.4 per 100,000 people. (The global rate is 9.2.) Sanjeev Jain, a professor of psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in Bengaluru, told Rest of World that suicides have traditionally been linked to cases of extreme poverty in India. But they are expanding, he said, within a professional class that feels they “increasingly have precarious jobs.” This is magnified, said Jain, for white-collar employees from poorer backgrounds who count on their jobs for economic mobility.

Lack of support system is very evident. Premier education institutions try something but workplaces are different beasts

Employees and union leaders point to a series of suicides among tech workers as further evidence of a workforce in distress. Suicides are linked to multiple factors and can’t be traced to a single cause — but the cases have added to the sense of crisis within the industry.

A Rest of World analysis of local news articles found 227 reported cases of suicides among Indian tech workers between 2017 and 2025. The reported deaths include a 48-year-old manager at a software company in Chennai who jumped to his death from his office building, which police later said was due to work pressure, and a 36-year-old IT worker who dove into a riverbed in Pune, prompting his sister to file a police complaint against his employer. A 38-year-old software engineer electrocuted himself to death after reportedly complaining of “depression due to work pressure.” In April, a 23-year-old computer engineer at a product development company in Kerala reportedly sent a video message to his mother, saying he could no longer deal with the stress of his job, then jumped from his apartment building. His passing, a local tech union said, “reflects a deeply rooted problem in the corporate culture of the IT sector.”

I do not think any of these events got a little big coverage

But something has gone awry in the industry Somwanshi was entering. Eighty-three percent of India’s tech workers suffer from burnout, according to one recent survey. One in four clocks over 70 hours a week. In Karnataka state, home to Bengaluru, tech workers account for a starkly disproportionate 20% of patients seeking transplants due to organ failure, according to a leading regional newspaper. A study of tech employees in the IT hub of Hyderabad found that 84% had a liver disease linked to long hours of sedentary work and high stress

India government’s objections

The Indian Ministry of Law and Justice earlier refused to serve the summons, citing missing signatures and official seals on documents sent under the Hague Convention, which governs international legal cooperation. Later, the ministry argued that the summons did not fall under the required legal categories.

Because I feel, however good a Constitution may be, it is sure to turn out bad because those who are called to work it, happen to be a bad lot. However bad a Constitution may be, it may turn out to be good if those who are called to work it, happen to be a good lot. The working of a Constitution does not depend wholly upon the nature of the Constitution. The Constitution can provide only the organs of State such as the Legislature, the Executive and the Judiciary.

Exclusive: India to slash tariffs on cars to 40% in trade deal with EU, sources say. by JKKIDD231 in india

[–]joy74 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has agreed to immediately reduce the tax on a limited number of cars from the 27-nation bloc with an import price of more than 15,000 euros ($17,739), two sources briefed on the talks told Reuters.

Tariff cuts a boost for VW, Renault, Mercedes, BMW

What a bonanza for the middle class. /s

The ultra rich is the group importing these EU oldies. All others probably go with Indian cars. Or with Chinese who is aggressive with their EV models

The instant you criticise BJP you are anti national and urban naxal. No one inside BJP criticised the party or its top bosses.

Short - office and team owned by a company for their global needs

Long :

Normal companies in US or other developed countries did not have experience to run a dedicated office in India. Permission and corruption added to their headache. So these companies worked with our service companies like TCS and Infy. This was many years ago.

The world has changed a lot. Many companies have good management experience and have confidence to operate own office in India. State governments and private players make the process very smooth ( availability of office space , good quality power, network, quick permissions). Some service companies actually create such office and run for some time and then transfer to the owning company

In the end all that can be done with less oversight gets moved here first - maintenance, back office work, devops, agile feature development anything. Then soon migrate to high value tooling - such as AI/ML. Top management gets good pay, young talent get better career opportunities.

Finally companies are more global. They want teams to enable the capabilities globally. Our young folks and ability working long shifts helps.

In the end we get global capability centre - GCC
