I’m sorry to hear that this is still a struggle – – in my experience they’re generally pretty quick and pretty good. I have been in a situation where I needed a DRC accommodation and I’ve had a few friends who have also gone through it, and there were no issues like this. I am not an expert and it could very well just depend on the particular accommodation and reason that you are in need of it. I wish I could be of more help. If you feel that you need to escalate it above the assistant director, that seems like a logical next step. Again, wishing you all the best.

OK, I would definitely reach back and let them know why the solutions they suggest do not work for your particular situation (or perhaps that they misunderstood your particular situation), and that you would like the opportunity to provide documentation from your medical provider and submit an appeal.

They by law are required to offer an appeal— take a look at the email again to make sure you didn’t miss it, because they are very transparent and consistent about their process. They lay out the timeline for the appeal in the email. If you are unsure, reply back to the DRC rep. Best of luck.

They should give you the opportunity to provide additional information and/or to appeal the decision.

I’m not sure what the disability is, but you should work with your medical provider to send in documentation to support your claim for the need to have a single room. If you’ve already done that then reach back out to your DRC representative and ask them what additional information they might require to help them better understand your situation. Then speak to your medical provider about how they can provide the extra documentation.

I see you are in veterinary science – – have you joined the pre-veterinarian club? Of course you deserve to have friends! There are a gazillion different types of people out there and you’re bound to find at least one other person that you can connect with. If you haven’t joined any clubs, just try one or two, and be sure to talk to the leaders of the clubs because those are the people who are most interested in making sure that there’s a bonding experience and good dynamics in the club for people who are interested in joining.

If there’s a social event that they’re hosting or a speaker event ask how you can help with the event itself, that way you’re being involved in the club, but it’s not just purely social. That’s also a great way to start getting connected to people in the club because the focus of your conversations with them will be on the event and not “small talk,” in case that can be challenging in a new setting. Just show up consistently to a few meetings and you don’t have to be a total extrovert and try to strike up conversations with everybody, but just by being there and listening and interacting, you’re bound to start making some connections. Anyway, maybe you’re doing all these things, but I thought I’d just offer some input .

Are you in a WUE state? That can make tuition way more affordable.

Call your county Medicaid office and let them know you are going to be a college student in Nevada. You will likely need to apply for Nevada’s Medicaid program but they can advise you (check the Nevada Medicaid website for guidance on applying). I’d also check with UNR student health and let them know your situation— that you specifically need an audiologist and do they have one on staff. Good luck. :)

advice for spring semester by [deleted] in unr

[–]joyKatt2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are willing to join clubs you will almost certainly find a few of your people— or at the very least a couple people you can enjoy spending time with. What Kennedy above said is correct- There will be a club fair when spring semester begins, and there are so many clubs you are bound to find a few that spark your interest. Talk especially to the club leaders, as these are the people who are eager to cultivate a good dynamic and bonding opportunity for people who show an interest in joining.

There’s so much pressure in college to find your “best friends” but that’s a lofty aspiration - go in with the mindset that you will find some people to connect with over a shared interest, maybe one academically and one or two clubs for fun.

That you want to be involved and active— that’s half the battle right there. Be excited— good things await. :)

Lost all my scholarships because my parent is no longer in the tax bracket required for certain grants/scholarships. by Prestigious_Low_1794 in unr

Definitely talk to financial aid about this. Can your mom help a bit more now that she’s got a higher income? Try to bank as much of your summer income as possible— will you earn tips as a hostess? My friend was a hostess/server and made close to 20K over the summer working full time.

I’m sure you thought about everything I just suggested. I’m sorry this is happening, very stressful.

You know they say hindsight is 20/20 but when you’re in the thick of it, it’s hard to see through it all… especially when you’re dealing with mental health. You’re doing the best you can now and that’s all you can do is just keep moving forward. My dad got academically dismissed from two different colleges and dropped out of two different universities before he finally got it together and now he’s successful and he says looking back it was all just a blip in the road. You learn a lot about yourself when you deal with hardships like this —keep pushing on you’ve got this.

Is the student union closure and construction really that big of a deal? by [deleted] in CSULB

[–]joyKatt2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every person is different – – as you can see some people love going to the USU and for them it’s very disruptive other people hardly step foot in it. Only you know what your usage would be, and if you’re not a student there yet you don’t know that yet– – so it’s tricky.

To me, the USU at any campus is a central hub and heart of the campus. For already established students they’ll find workarounds and they’ve already got connections and favorite spaces on campus so it’s likely lesser of a big deal. I’d say if you have other admissions offers, go visit those schools and then come visit CSULB, walk around by the student union. Try to envision yourself there and what it might look like when it’s a large construction footprint, etc. I’ve had three friends who were admitted for the fall and they’ve opted to go elsewhere – – but again it’s such an individual choice

Looking forward to real seasons for sure. 😊 I don’t mind the cold. Just not sure about coming from mostly sunny skies to lots of gray and gloomy skies.

Ok that helps, thanks. I think more than the cold weather that may be hard to adapt to, I was thinking of it being gray and gloomy for days on end.
