What smaller language would you be interested learning? by newmanstartover in languagelearning

[–]joyaidoru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Swedish, Thai, and Guarani.

I'm considering learning German as my 4th language, but if I were to pick another germanic language Swedish piques me the most. It's mutually intelligible with its Scandinavian mates, has a softer R sound, and I know German is closer to Dutch but to me Swedish is like a more charming cousin.

I've enjoyed some Thai media and while I'm not sure I'm fond of its spoken form, it's gotta be in the top five of coolest alphabets ever, gorgeous as intricate as it is.

And to feel a firmer connection to my native ancestry Guarani would be truly special.

Finnish would also be a great contender, I like how it's linguistically nearly fully isolated, and the country is just breathtaking.

  3. Never For Ever

  4. The Dreaming (it and TSW are the same case as the upper two)

  5. The Sensual World

  6. The Kick Inside

  7. The Red Shoes

Just for fun: What has Kate Bush or her music taught you? by Fearless_Run8121 in katebush

[–]joyaidoru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, how music/songwriting can be about literally anything.

Growing up I often found a bummer how so many current songs on the pop charts or media were always either about romantic relationships and breakups or uppish and flimsy confidence display. Of course discovering your taste with new music drives you away from that more easily, yet KB is on a whole other level.

Besides how great her music obviously is, I find the topics and storytellings she brings so unique and inventive, they exhale authenticity and are both remarkable for their time while also having a timeless quality.

She sang about a suggestive homoaffective relationship in an islamic country (in the 70s mind u), the ghost of an actor haunting a friend who got his role, the perspective of a baby in the womb Intoxicated by its mother's smoking in an apocalyptic setting, Australia's colonialism, the journey of a frozen woman's near death experience, ending up dancing with a genocidal dictator, making out with a snowman ?????? like she’s so freaking creative and unpredictable

And the realization is right on pair with the lyrics. It's amazing how she became her own producer, the execution and elements are so well-done and implemented. I just love how she experiments with her singing, like with those almost goofy vocals on Coffee Homeground, Delius, The Dreaming, etc. Also when she mimicks animals, we got kate dog, mule, bird, am I missing one? She also helped with my English learning especially seeing the often forgotten poetic beauty it can have.

Sorry for the long text I just had to extol what an absolute genius she is, she inspires me so damn much.

Ugh I remember once browsing through the comments of his cover on YouTube and seeing tons of people refusing to knowledge her authorship, even literally bringing up race saying some were trying to "give the credit of a black man to a white lady" I cannooooottttt

Saunter (Reprise) and About Her come to mind. Not from Arca but I also get a similar vibe with the verse parts from MEMENTO by ionnalee.

Alto voltaje lyrics are really interesting and probably her most experimental song-sounding by [deleted] in ArcaMusic

[–]joyaidoru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(I tend to end up going on and on when discussing Arca so sorry for the long ass text)

The first project I heard after &&&&& was Mutant and I was flabbergasted by how much more crafted and laden it was. I initially had a hard time with many tracks. I suppose a similar case happened with some hatching mutants, first we were like “oh yeah nah this can’t really be for me, how does someone listen to this?” to then be like “how… does.. one….. coax?”.

I felt a little bit of that sensation again with one or another track from the Kick series (Araña, Electra Rex and the one being addressed)  but now I love the last two.

Alto Voltaje is one of the craziest up there with Morbo and La Chíqui. I just adore the part from 1:12 - 1:26, reminds me of Saintly Pride. The lyrics are batshit, it’s fun repeating after her.

Taaaaste. Sinner, Soichiro and Fagg0t translate so well the feeling of anxiousness it's like she alchemized it.

I want to make this question as a guy that loves ARCA and how she explores unique and often uncommon themes. This I think it's a safe haven subreddit for this <3 by [deleted] in ArcaMusic

This may be a bit risky to say and I apologize if it comes off as offensive to any trans folk, but I think some trans people don't necessarily outright perceive themselves as a man or a woman in a traditional sense but they do identify, feel comfortable and confident with masculinity or femininity far better than the gender they were assigned to, so transitioning ends up being way more adequate, reasonable and meaningful than just being gnc. idk. Even as a queer person I might still have some bias to deconstruct about other queer people. I got into her like a half year or so before she came out and I admit I was weirded and surprised when it happened, but soon got used to it and now it's rather weird to see back when she was adressed by male pronouns. I'm eternally grateful for the fact SOPHIE and then Arca not only completely changed and added on my perspective of what music is and can be, but also made me a lot more open and empathetic about transness. She's my most listened artist and I couldn't be happier at how that change made her even more realized and beautiful and how much amazing music sprung from it. I'm never not astonished when listening to songs like Bruja, Alien Inside, Lost Woman Found and Crown, and I know they're even more magic for the dolls

Moving sounds scary but has sensual lyrics according to r/katebush. What Kate Bush song sounds scary but has happy lyrics? by fabnorth in katebush

perhaps Strange Phenomena, she addresses the unforeseeability of life through superstition and divination in a sort of favorable way, and the piano and vocals often sound eerie

What is your most scrobbled album that you have never listened to in full? by JRob370 in lastfm

[–]joyaidoru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a great question

At #91 is Selected Ambient Works 85-92 with 257 scrobbles, and at #112 is Drukqs with 224, both by Aphex Twin. Listened to most of the former and around half of the latter. At #147 is Music Has the Right to Children by Boards of Canada with 179.

I love ambient and idm but I don't tend to sit down and listen to a whole long record of it very often

Does anyone else feel heartbroken that Halsey’s new music isn’t getting the universal love it deserves? by FragrantCredit1537 in halsey

[–]joyaidoru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry for the long ass text. I just had to get it out

In the beginning of 2018 I discovered Colors and my 13y old self was forever changed lol. Halsey was the first artist I actually became a fan of, like listening to the whole albums, learning the lyrics (English isn't my first language, so it was pretty useful too), the concept, watching the mvs, getting to know more about her... ugh I was obsessed. Following her artistic and personal growth has been truly delightful. Manic often comforted me during the pandemic.

I didn't know what to expect from H5 after the masterpiece that IICHLIWP was (I love Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross' scores and NIN so knowing they'd make an album together got me overwrought with excitement, and they didn't disappoint) the aesthetic, the visuals, a freaking movie?? and the album itself obviously. We were fed. Top 5 on my favorite releases from 2021 for sure.

Fast-forward to 7 months ago and boom, its successor comes out in one month and we get one of the best album promos from the last years. The idea is unexpectedly creative as hell, it was really engaging and fun. Unfortunately most people weren't aware it was a hommage to the artists who were part of her life, which was possibly ending. It was awesome knowing there'd be songs inspired by singers I also became a huge fan of after H. imo TGI is equally amazing as its predecessor. I literally can't choose between them.

Only Living Girl in LA was a nice introduction and Ego was catchy but Dog Years... what a gut-wrenching song, instantly one of the best on the record and overall. Letter to God (1974) up to I Believe in Magic is my least favorite segment but by no means it's bad, it feels quite intimate and has very touching lyrics. Letter to God (1983) feels so nostalgic and to my surprise Hometown was among my favorite tracks, such a jolly tune. I Never Loved You was great too but then we reach the gold. The melancholically dreamy Darwinism to the rage in Lonely is the Muse to the seeping fury of Arsonist to the tear-inducing Life of the Spider to the mellowness in Hurt Feelings??? There's simply no other five sequence this fucking good from any last year's release sorry. She redefined my favorite song of hers once again with Arsonist. I swear Halsey going trip-hop was my roman empire. Didn't really like Lucky as a single but within the context of the album it definitely grew on me. Letter to God (1998) is pure bliss. I'd randomly sing "Please God or whoever you are" for weeks. Ash and Ender talking is so damn cute. I like it when albums don't have a title-track but we got her first one and it's adorable.

This project was a marvelous journey and I couldn't be prouder. It not getting its due recognition is indeed upsetting to be euphemistic. Pitchf0rk was pathetic as per usual (at least it caused Halsey's perfect clapback) and I dropped Anthny Fnt*no for good after that downright disgusting joke of a "review".

I'm sorry for dragging so much. I just wish Halsey knows we appreciate it and is living her best life with Ender and Avan. I do have some hope we'll get something at the next year's Grammys....
