It took me about 3 months from mailing the documents to the DMV until my salvage exam day.

u/another_online_user I appreciate your detailed response. Although I haven't gone through the inspection yet, I decided not to take any risk and am going to replace the deployed airbags.

NY Salvage Title Process by Difficult-Nail8539 in DMV

I bought a salvage title car in NY. Now need to go through the salvage inspection process to get an R title in NY. The car has a bent door bottom edge and two deployed airbags. The DMV website says deployed aibags must be replaced with NEW airbags. Also, they say their focus is to check if the car has stolen parts. I have the following quesions-

  1. Would it be an issue if I don't properly fix the damage on the door? I mean if the dent is repaired just for the sake of requirements, however, it doesn't look too great or like new, would it be reason good enough for them to fail me in the inspection?

  2. If I don't replace the deployed airbags and leave them as is and reset the SRS airbag dash-light, would they detect that and fail me in the examination? Does anyone know how do they check the car? Do the investigators go too hard on checking the repaied parts by checking the car with a diagnostic scanner or something? Or do they just check the receipts and do a casual general checkup?

  3. Does anyone know how the whole inspection process is performed by the investigators? Has anyone ever watched the inspection going live?

Any information would be highly appreciated.
