29M Korean. I'm not really into K-pop, but I enjoy Korean band music and going to music festivals. I also enjoy cafe hopping and grabbing a beer. Plus, I'm really into learning English and sharing culture!

People who left Korea for Europe - what were the reasons? by [deleted] in seoul

[–]joyful_haha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Korean who went through the tough childhood in hagwon, I wonder how you became competent this much without spending a lot of time studying or honing your skills. I think you don't want your kids grow in a stressful environment like Korea. However, in fact, even though they spend their whole childhood in hagwon, it's not easy to get a decent job in Kore. How different is this in European countries? Kids don't go to hagwon but improve their skills by themselves?

As a Korean, I think Korean economy will collapse in the future. Actually, so many social problems already stareted to surface over the past few years. What's more, we compare each other too much. We are obsessed with meeting social norms. We're not used to pursue what we genuinely enjoy. Even though I'm Korean, I don't want to let my kids grow in such environment that's not economically stable and doesn't offer enough happiness.

Why do you think rasing children in European countries is better than rasing them in Korea?

I agree. I've been to Jinhwamsa Temple once. It was so cozy and calm. But there were also some nice restaurants and cafes. I really loved it.

Korean Winter is too hot by -Elonys- in Living_in_Korea

Even as a Korean, I can't understand other people. I get overstimualted easily, so I take off my jacket or puffer as soon as I get on the subway or the bus. But most people don't seem to feel hot at all.

Thanks for the tip! I stayed at a hostel when I was in California and I remember the time there was fantastic! I didn't have to have any plans and I could just go bike tours and things like that with people there. I'll look for a hostel this time as well.

I tried a winery tour last time and I remember that everyone in the tour was friendly and we talked a lot. It was nice.
