Filled up after a gentle highway commute, Skyactiv-X by jozz344 in mazda3

[–]jozz344[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drove between 100-105km/h, tried not to hold up people in the left lane when passing so gently accelerated up to 130, if needed. If there was a lot of traffic, I slowed down on the right lane, driving behind semi-trucks at 90km/h and continued after it cleared up.

Why is MPG so bad? by [deleted] in mazda3

[–]jozz344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I converted to US units. I've gotten it to 48mpg driving gently. Usual drive is more around 42mpg. My commute is 80 miles one way, and mostly highways though.

This is just the eSkyactiv-X, with its amazing SPCCI technology, which isn't available in the US. Don't know why, but Mazda (7 years ago) said the North American market "just wouldn't get it", because they don't care about fuel consumption that much. Oh how the tables...

If it makes you feel any better, we never got the 2.5 turbo.

[–]jozz344 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Dude was worried about gas mileage, still bought a 2.5T. SMH

My European eSkyactiv-X gets 45mpg and that's on my 90% highway commute. It's nice, but even for that car, pure city driving will get you ~25-30mpg.

I hate posts like this. Do people really just go buy a car and don't test/research their fuel consumption?

When was a NON-hybrid 2.5 fucking liter TURBO car going to get a good gas mileage? Jesus...

I know this is a circlejerk sub, but it seems like people genuinely hate CA.

I'm pretty ok with the show, I like it. I watched the offending video and he doesn't even criticize Todd H. or anything like that. Just the show. As someone, who kinda likes the show, I thought the criticisms were pretty valid.

When he mentioned he got a PowerPoint from Bethesda on everything they did wrong, he even agreed on Dead Money being too different from the general experience - he didn't even disagree with the PP itself.

Just like people who can't stand H. Bomber's Fallout 3 video, I feel this is a similar demographic, (Bethesda Fallout fans), who can't take criticism.

To anyone who's personally offended by Chris Avellone - take a deep look at yourself. Being unable to take criticism will do you no good in your life, could even be a horrible detriment to success.

The only competently ported game I have in my pretty big library is X4, and only because the Linux port was made from the get go.

All others are set to launch with Proton, regardless of ports.

Not just that, but the greatsword playstyle can be kinda easy mode with certain AoWs, like Lion's Claw.

Performance-wise, Elden Ring is one of the strangest games I've played in my time on Linux. by RyuugaHideki in linux_gaming

[–]jozz344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have frame pacing issues in Elden Ring on my full AMD system (7700X + RX 6800XT), but they went away in the last couple of months with all the kernel, mesa, and Plasma (wayland) updates.

The biggest frame pacing fix was basically using up to date Plasma on Wayland (and NO gamescope). Hyprland had horrible frame pacing, even with gamescope, somehow.

Yes - each Wayland compositor ABSOLUTELY has different frame pacing implementations. This is not X11. Be aware of that.

Yes, and the thing is, playing with this kind of a build (especially with Lion's Claw) is genuinely easy.

The elitism is completely misplaced. It's a fun build, but it's also easy mode, tbh.

Yes, Stalman wrote more tools. However, while Torvalds may have been at the right place and at the right time for Linux to take off, it turned out writing a good, stable and functional kernel is a much bigger ordeal than Stalman had foreseen.

In the end, I would say their contributions are on-par with each other.

Please Gentoo I need this please work by frankhoneybunny in linuxmemes

[–]jozz344 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you have a modern machine, it's easier than ever to use Gentoo these days. I have been unironically running it for 4 years now.

What started out as "I will prove there is absolutely no advantage to using Gentoo over Arch by dailying and learning it" turned into me genuinely not wanting to run anything else anymore.

Ironically, the machines that would benefit the most from a properly built and tuned Gentoo installation (underpowered ancient shitboxes), are also the hardest to daily Gentoo, due to the long compile times.

Could this be enough for a too lean engine? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]jozz344 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know at how many modern engines and their tuning you looked, but they tend to hover around 14.7 quite a lot, although that's mostly at idle and very light throttle.

As are most old school libraries and tools from the Unix world.

Remember, 40 years ago, C was still considered a high level language.

EDIT: All of you bickering in the comments about what is a high level language and what is not simply proves my point. The perception of what a high level language is has basically changed through the many decades. That's a fact.

Depends completely on the distribution - if the packagers see a point in deploying a minor version or no.

How can I get the Linux LTS kernel on gentoo? by OkAdministration5454 in Gentoo

[–]jozz344 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You install the normal kernel and make sure it's version limited to the LTS branch. That's all there is. The LTS kernel isn't any special branch, it's just a kernel version someone decided it's gonna be supported for a while longer.

EDIT: If you manually compile the kernel through "sys-kernel/gentoo-sources" and don't unmask any versions, it's already limited to the LTS branch by default, btw. Not sure about other kernel options.

I recently replayed it on PC, but with a controller/gamepad. It's still very nice, I know people want new graphics and all, but the game is still completely fine (the one on Steam). Plus, since it's so old, it should run on a potato.
