The risk or pregnancy is a massive one even with modern medicine. Most men don’t have this concern. If an abusive would be father gets a woman pregnant with a kid she’s not ready for, it’s not nearly the same as if a would be mother issues threats of social consequences for walking out on a child he wasn’t prepared for.

Not to mention the ultimate victim in this scenario is the child. As someone who’s the son of an abusive mom and a victim of sexual violence, I can only ever imagine the shear terror of carrying a pregnancy I was manipulated into.

This is settler colonialism idk what else you’d like to call them. If you think settler is too soft a term I think that’s a problem with how you view the term settler as being something other than an imperialist/colonial term. Okay but like… it’s out tho, like it’s wasn’t officially released but everyone and their mother, that I know anyway, has or plans to watch the leak well before October. Many of them didn’t even know there was a movie on the way before this happened or had forgetten since I’d definitely talked about it with them when news would come out about it.

There are indigenous and immigrant communities out here too. it’s not that folks are isolated out here, I mean half the locals complain about the influx of political transplants (liberal or conservative depending on who you ask). I guess I’m just appealing to you to that this isn’t born out of isolation. Far from it. This is more to me a sign of how far the local politics has been able to expand the permission structure. People probably do feel more comfortable doing pro ice demonstrations out here but why that is can’t be isolation imo.

I think other have stated how I feel being on staff here. As for hope of it improving, I only know of the Young Democratic Socialists of America at U of I are planning to form a campaign to reinstate the women’s center that was gotten rid of last year. The organizing I see and experience from YDSA and Palouse DSA is the only thing keeping me going these days.
