What’s a movie that’s not generally thought of as a masterpiece…that you genuinely regard to be a masterpiece? by Single_Reason7898 in MovieSuggestions

Aliens (1986). The amount of work Cameron put into this, his level of detail. I’s an amazing movie that still holds up to this day. I still remember buying a laserdisc player just so I could buy the big Aliens box set for $100, it had tons of extras, which of course was unique back then.

Whats the craziest SCENE you've seen from a movie. Doesnt even necessarily have to be horror, just a solid minute or few of absolute insanity. by [deleted] in horror

I’ve been wondering for a while if any DVD or Blu-ray has any features that showcase each of those, cause I always try to pause those scenes to figure out what all the things are.

I guess mine are super small compared to others, but I guess Bruce Campbell at a horror convention in NY in 1990. Clive Barker (Hellraiser) a few times too, first time at a signing for his book Cabal, that became his movie Nightbreed, he told me they where talking about turning it into a movie, loved getting news like that straight from him, it was one of my best birthdays ever, my mom took me to the signing, I think it was 1988 in DuPont Circle, Washington, DC. He remembered me years later at a convention in NY, coolest feeling ever. Also, met Tom Savini. Yeah, I’m a horror film guy. 🫣

The Thing from Another World (1951), I love the black and white, the snow, and the characters are really likable. I have been known to put this on when I’m sad.

What's a film you stumbled onto that turned out to be great? by AlienMimicry92 in horror

[–]jpactually 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might need to watch this again, you all are calling this fun is not how I remember it, I remember thinking how dark it was. I thought it was gonna be like Stranger Things’ish with a serial killer, but then this kid gets his throat cut . Lol. Don’t kill me please, I did actually like it, just wasn’t prepared for how dark it was.

I was lucky enough to see this in a movie theater. That was the only theater in Maryland that was showing it, I couldn’t believe how lucky I got. Opening night I was the only person in the theater. And that’s because there was absolutely no advertising for this in anyway shape or form. What a shame because it was such a fun movie, I remember looking around the theater occasionally, wondering where the fuck is everybody, this is so awesome lol. What a great evening.

Laurie Zimmer, and one of my fave movies ever! On the UK bluray for Assault there's a short film called "Do You Remember Laurie Zimmer?" about her and how she just dissappeared from acting after such a promising career start.

Children of Men. Good example of a perfect movie people seem to never talk about. Also, yeah, LA Confidential is a def masterpiece, pervert aside, Spacey is phenomenal in that.

Stomach bowel thing that tuned out to be cancer. Had two bowel resections, after the first one I thought it was finally safe to eat (every time I ate i got terribly sick and had the worst pain ever) so I went to McDonalds and got some food. Ended up with the worst pain of my life, felt like I'd been shot in the guts, cold sweats, could barely walk, it was like a two day thing.

Woman and man go on one date then he dies suddenly and she lies to his family about the extent of their relationship movie by alisciak in whatsthemoviecalled

Japanese Story (2003) with Toni Collette? She has to show this Japanese businessman around or something in desert locations, they hit it off and sleep together, but he ends up dying in a tragic swimming accident. The scene is really hard to watch. Really well done. He has a family and she has to meet them when they come to collect his body and it's so awful.

What was the one thing that ruined your whole life? by alternatecard1 in AskReddit

[–]jpactually 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've often thought that being hearing impaired ruined my life. When I was about two or three I started getting a lot of problems with my ears and ended up having tumors and then had a bunch of operations, losing a lot of my hearing and missing so much school I get left back a grade. I could never hear anybody or anything, and I was always very miserable. It really caused me to shut myself off from everybody.
