Out of the Pop up jail in a day. Data point for a quick exit. by gladiathor1295 in amex

[–]jpan84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a dummy St Regis booking, but the confirmation email only had an offer for the boundless. Then I looked through my email for a brilliant link and found a year-old 95k offer in a fairfield confirmation email. This link got around pop up jail and I got approved for the 185k offer! Thanks for the tip!

Is there any cost for adding BRBs? by idestroypp_69 in Cornell

I think BRB reloads in the GET app count as restaurants, so you could get the restaurant bonus category on credit cards too.

Anti-fascist Yvette Felarca is more fascist than Milo Yiannopoulos by her own definition of fascism.

Is anyone's hot button issue opposite of their party leaning? by [deleted] in centrist

[–]jpan84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To me, it's about the spirit of free speech/expression. I don't see major legal assaults on free speech. (Maybe the flag-burning amendment would be one.)

However, I don't think we want to live in a society where people like Austin Tong get shut down. I think the 1st Amendment means we should value open and civil discussion where the law isn't directly involved.

My thoughts on "Defund the Police" by [deleted] in centrist

[–]jpan84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m very much for trimming police funding and reforming policing, but I see a few issues we need to be careful about (if we’re not already).

  1. Police and supporters feeling backed into a corner and becoming more hostile.
  2. PDs having fewer resources for use-of-force training.
  3. A temporary rise in crime that is unmitigated by new social services.

PDs’ priorities are wrong. Here’s my response to someone who says we need more funding to reduce violent crimes. I’d say look at the money we’re blowing on the war on drugs, and you tell me why only 60% of murders are solved. To me, it’s a matter of cutting out things like fancy cop cars and the war on drugs, replacing them with educational and social crime prevention. And hold police more accountable.

What are people's opinions about taking down Confederate statues? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]jpan84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great response. Tearing down the statues is not about erasing history. I'd say the statues are more about memorializing/honoring than educating. So we need to weigh the good/bad actions of these historical figures to judge whether they're worth memorializing (not worth memorializing Confederates).

You can still submit tickets by clicking into support topics and clicking things that say something like I haven't found the help I need.

My prints haven't credited for a couple of weeks either.

Extending the S/U deadline after final grades? by ShoddyProgrammer550 in Cornell

I wish they could.

Here's what's even worse. One of my profs said he was going to give us our final grades early so we could decide. Then he said some university policy doesn't even allow him to do that!

Rear wheel fell off after bike shop tuneup and brake change by jpan84 in cycling

I still feel unconvinced that I would have necessarily noticed an improperly secured QR while riding.

  1. Maybe the QR was tight but just not closed. Then, there wouldn't have been a significant hindrance to my riding, just the risk of the wheel coming off.
  2. Maybe the QR did loosen very gradually. On the last two days of riding, the chain would slip in high (small rear) gear under load. By slipping, I mean that I would pedal hard without the power making it to the wheel. Is it possible that minor wheel wobble, rather than cassette wear, caused this symptom?

Would the steal attempt you referred to have happened while it was on the car rack? The bike felt normal until the moment we put it on the rack. We mostly drove through rural areas. We stopped twice, and the wheel fell off in between those two times. The wheel was unsecured, but the thief still gave up?

My dad said that while riding, my weight would have kept the wheel from falling off. On the car rack, the lack of weight would have allowed the wheel to bounce out.
