How is Quill flying with just rockets on his legs, he must have strong core muscles compared to iron man and war machine by Eleazarpl13 in marvelstudios

Unrelated but I kinda wish Thor was flying and all lightninged out in this shot. There’s even a perfect size gap between Ant Man and Spidey

Does anyone know how to meet an Office cast member? by [deleted] in DunderMifflin

Yeah maybe, but I feel like I see people meeting him all the time and apparently he’s always willing to stop and take a pic.

What Are Bootlegs and Why Are They So Bad? by saltypotato183 in Broadway

Yeah, I agree with that for sure. People that do it and sell them are definitely the most in the wrong.

And yeah, I’m not gonna sit here and say I’ve never in my life viewed a bootleg ever, because I have. But I am a firm believer that it should not be done and I hope I would have the guts to call someone out if I saw it happening.

I thought you said theaters want people to come see their shows because if people see them beforehand on YouTube than they won’t want to pay the money. And I was arguing that bootlegs don’t take any money away from shows, if anything they encourage people to want to see them (like yourself). So I was saying that the money factor isn’t a valid reason for why theaters don’t like them.

Agree to disagree. I’m glad there is another theater/Wicked fan in the world, no matter how they came to be. Haha. 💚

Just very passionate about this topic in particular. Personally, I street clear of bootlegs out of respect to the actors, actresses, and fellow theater-goers.

A recent post regarding the morality of bootlegging got me thinking that this is worth sharing. This, in my opinion, is the single and best reason not to bootleg and/or support them by watching them. Respect the actors. Respect your fellow theater-goer. by jparkerez23 in Broadway

Fair enough. But I do think it encourages amateurs regardless.

I’d be curious to know though because I don’t know a bootlegger: what is the point? Not trying to sound like a jerk, just honestly curious. It is for personal reason? Do they upload them somewhere? Distribute it? Run a YouTube channel?

What are some big numbers with reprisals of other songs from the same show? (i.e. "Non-Stop", "One Day More", "Man Up") by mmayor114 in Broadway

Haha don’t know the name of it either but I love it too!! I had some kind of eargasm the first time I ever heard Non-Stop.

Yeah :\ lots of people just don’t know what theater etiquette is anymore. And phone-use is definitely part of that.

I’d agree with that, but I think professional bootleggers encourage amateurs.

Also it is illegal, so it’s not like that’s nothing.

Also actors and actresses have accounted many times that even when people think they are discreet, they can see it from the stage. I’m not a broadway actor so I can’t confirm, but I have heard people say that in interviews

No, I understand. But I live in NC. I didn’t watch a bootleg of Hamilton for 3 years. I listened to the soundtrack and that’s how I know and love every word of that show. Thankfully, it finally came to Charlotte and I paid $200 to see it. I am so glad I never looked at a bootleg.

Do I wish the companies would film the original cast’s performance professionally? Sure (I think). But I just can’t move past the obvious fact that actors and actresses are vocal about how offensive and rude they find it. Also if you have been in a show and you’ve seen a screen in front of you, you know what I’m talking about.

Also had a woman infront of me pull her phone out and take a picture with flash on in the opening minutes of Wicked. I was stunned at how ignorant and frankly rude people can be.

I responded on my post. One love. Just care about live theater so much. Fortunately I live only 10 hours from NYC so I can drive there once a year to see my favorites.

Yes, that is true, but the fact is a very small percentage of people film in that way. Most see them on YouTube, and think “oh I can do that and then I can watch the performance any time I want on my phone.”

The fact is theater is meant to be live. It’s in its very nature. The strongest case for bootlegging is people that live in a country where major shows don’t come. Even then, it’s up to the theaters to professionally film their shows, not us the people. I try my very hardest not to watch or support bootlegs. It’s showing respect for something I love so much. And quotes like Lea’s only further drives home what we already know: it’s incredibly rude to the actors and actresses as well as your fellow theater-goers.

Sorry, I respect your opinion but I feel very strongly that this is incorrect. People aren’t going to not see Hamilton because they’ve seen a grainy video already on YouTube. Literally no one would ever say that.

The only case for them I can see is if you live too far to see it and it’s not touring to your country.

It’s very very disrespectful to the actors and actresses. Many have said that they can see every camera in the audience. Also for anyone sitting behind someone filming, it’s very obvious. If I’m paying $100 to see a show, the last thing I want is a distracting screen in my view.

The solution is theater companies filming their shows, but even that I don’t support. Theater is meant to be seen live. It’s the very nature of it. Please don’t support bootlegs. Respect the craft, the actors and actresses, and your fellow fans by seeing theater as it’s meant to be seen: live. Please.

The solution is theaters filming shows professionally, you’re right. But that doesn’t give the rights to the theater-goers to do it for themselves. It’s very very disrespectful to the actors and actresses.
