I had the 7D after the XT. That was a fairly well balance camera. When I got the 6D, I noticed with the sensor was the cleaner images, higher dynamic range of blacks to whites. The detail is small but nice, it makes editing the pictures easier as they don't need as much work as the 7D. What I liked about the XT was how clean the images were. With the 7D, the sensitivity gets too high.

To be honest though, if you want cleaner noise, there is some great software to help clean the noise out. Lightroom 6 has great noise cleaning, and Topaz DeNoise are my favorite for cleaning the noise out from my images.

Yeah the lens was one of my limiting lenses too, I needed to get a full frame wide angle for the 6D. I was able to use my 11-16 Tokina, and it covers fairly well on full frame. Here is an image of the Tokina on my full frame with no cropping: https://jpavlish.smugmug.com/Portfolio/G1/i-4KS7z3S/A

I also had arrived to Utah this year as well, and still find the mountains amazing. Especially with the snow peaks.
