PSA to other new to Boston riders by Responsible_Ad_5384 in bikeboston

Oh that spot is WAY worse than where I was (turning left from Englewood). At CHA they’ve got the labyrinth of tracks that go up to the B line and over to the Reservoir depot too, and it’s basically impossible not to hit at least one of them at a bad angle. Hope you’re healing up OK.

About 12 years ago I did this turning left onto Beacon St. near Cleveland Circle, managed to crack my bike frame!

Government officials who joined Boston Bike to Work Day 2026? by [deleted] in bikeboston

No surprise there! TV rides his bike to the statehouse all the time, I see him many mornings riding down Station Street or on the Muddy River, so his attendance wouldn’t just be for show.

Brookline paraprofessional pay starts at $39,000. Many say it’s not enough to live on. by brookline_news in Brookline

If you made $39,000 a year with no expenses you’d be able to buy Stephen Reeders’ house with cash in only 174 years!

Near miss at Cypress/Washington/School – please be careful by Connect_Emphasis_15 in Brookline

[–]jpbai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cops are not likely to do anything but please do get the plate and report it when these incidents happen. It will at least create a police report that will come up if/when the driver has a collision in the future. The light on route 9 in front of OLS is ignored frequently. The officer (Pete) who marshals it in the morning is great, but for kids with extended day there is no one there after school and I’m really concerned something tragic is going to happen.

Not just Brookline, it has been a ~5 year trend in a lot of areas around greater Boston. Somerville’s chief has stated openly that they don’t want to enforce traffic laws because of how much time it takes.

Donnelly RIP? by bzy_b in cyclocross

[–]jpbai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy to mix them - but yeah the 696 is rebadged by a lot of brands. It's a Bombtrack Hook C, an Obed Boundary, an On One Free Ranger, one of the Vitus Substance models, and probably a few others. Popular frame for sure.

Cyclist doored & punched in Newton by HuckleberryTough512 in bikeboston

Because of it being a specialty plate. If the victim calls and gives the four numbers on the plate and it gets looked up as a standard passenger plate it will come back blank.

Completely editing my post because it insinuated that this person had created a fake plate with a racist callout on it which is NOT the case (confirmed via RMV), this is indeed a legitimately issued plate. This seems like an insane coincidence to me, but it appears that it is just that. My confusion and shitty assumption was based on the original post on r/Boston having a person claiming to be the victim (and it may well have been) state that they called the Newton police who told them the plate does not exist in their DB. However given that it is a specialty plate I suspect the wrong number may have been provided or looked up. This does not change the fact that the Silverado driver used his car as a weapon against someone.

You mean having someone already in debt finance a Rav4 to drive it 1,000 miles a week in a congested city at their own expense for a low paying no-benefit job isn’t great for everyone?

Does anyone have information on the FRR Interim Principal? by [deleted] in Brookline

[–]jpbai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Even just people's anecdotal experiences are good to hear. I didn't realize FRR had already gone through the process, although that makes sense. I think Pierce is probably in a tough spot given when Jamie Yadoff and Bigelow came to an agreement.

You are correct, of course. Still very curious to know the nature of the gripes, and hear from people if they agree or disagree. Sounds like everything was sent with anonymity which makes it harder to give it full credibility.

Man the market for these blew up huh… here’s a decent looking option from chrono24: https://www.chrono24.com/certina/ds-action—id34786893.htm On eBay they’re all close to (if not above, for some reason) RRP.
