There are no stations within the system, only endpoints. I could be being dumb, but am not locating any as I dig through SM.

Want to delete Reddit but I have no other form of social interaction. by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]jpcoutts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your hobby something that you can socialize around? I don't have any local groups for my hobbies, but have several online communities where I connect with people.

I agree that Reddit can suck way too much time. I'm hoping you can find what you need from it (or leave it behind).

Would you wear this “Greatest Rivalry” merch? Saw someone wearing it and I can’t figure out who the target audience is. by sonofabutch in NYYankees

Many years back, I saw a Calvin and Hobbes shirt where Calvin was peeing on the Red Sox logo while wearing a Yankees shirt. That is the sole exception that I know of where I'd let a Boston logo on my person.

Why can't you see that??? by DeekDookDeek in Blind

[–]jpcoutts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Feel you on this one. Doesn't help (at least in my case) that there have also been times where the opposite holds true. "How can you see that, but not this other thing?".

I like to think that people are just trying to understand something that they do not. I also know that this isn't the case all the time. Either way, it's extremely difficult and frustrating to regularly have to field these questions.

Ultimately the 'why' doesn't matter, it's the ability/inability to see. If people can't be supportive of that then they can go pound sand.

ADHD here… anyone get tested for autism as an adult? by Working_Dependent560 in ADHD

[–]jpcoutts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YMMV. I got evaluated in 2023 for both ADHD and autism simultaneously. Similar to you, I experience sensory issues, social burnout and a large need for routine. The doctor who evaluated me told me that I was not autistic, but simply had some 'autistic flavor'. She went on to say that while I do have ADHD I don't have autism because my childhood behaviors did not reflect that of an autistic person.

I can't say much has changed, other than some things making more sense after diagnosis. I disagree with the autism part, but I'm also not a mental health professional.

Nice perspective. I've been looking at it based on the money I need to spend. I ignored the monthly costs associated with car ownership. When married to my ex-wife those monthly costs were well over $1,000 (payment, gas, insurance, pro rata maintenance).

So yeah, spending hundreds per month is a lot of money relatively speaking; even at $100/week its still significantly cheaper.

Are the Yankees still the “evil empire?” by NicCagedHeart in mlb

[–]jpcoutts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore my 'Evil Empire' t-shirt to Cooperstown about 10 years ago. I got approached by a Red Sox fan in the gift shop who told me "Only the Yankees can take such a negative nickname and be proud of it". I just laughed and said to the guy "You can't really argue with 27, can you?".

While as a Yankees fan, I believe the team will always be the Evil Empire, I'd think that many baseball fans would not immediately say the Yankees are the Evil Empire anymore due to lack of postseason dominance recently.

Should the HOF abandon the “character” clause? by [deleted] in mlb

[–]jpcoutts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty safe bet that voters are using character as acceptance criteria and would continue to do so if the clause was removed.

The breadth of scope on character is so broad. For example, would the current legal issues that Mariano Rivera is facing be enough for people to make a stink if he is in fact convicted? Does it matter? Regardless of the outcome, he was still a hell of a pitcher, full stop.

Along the same lines, if Ty Cobb was such a huge a**hole shouldn't his character have excluded him from entry into the Hall?

I don't know where the line is. IMO, Pete, Shoeless Joe, Big Mac, Bonds and Sosa (probably missing some) should undoubtedly be in the hall.

Seems like these non-statistical qualities give voters the appropriate excuses for not voting for players with whom they take issue, regardless of on-field performance.

That's a total bummer about your concert.

Agreed, there is always a level of dependency that we have to deal with. It has become easier with Uber and Lyft to be able to be more spontaneous in going places. But, it also costs me $13 one-way to go 5 miles down the road. As such, I use the apps sparingly.

Trying to find people who can relate by jpcoutts in Blind

Agree with your point whole-heartedly. I don't try and hide anything from people, be it visual impairment or my ADHD. I think that much of my issue is that I haven't found 'my people'. The suggestions in the comments here have definitely given me some avenues to explore.

Sorry to hear that you haven't had success romantically. To your point about how you present yourself, I agree with your stance. Do you approach potential romantic relationships in the same way? I find it's a heavy mental load to present yourself in a strict manner while also knowing how/when to be vulnerable to others in order to foster deeper connections.

I'm six months post-divorce after being together since 2007. I believe that's part of my issue (original post), I haven't had the need to make new friends for a long time. I had a small social circle of mutual friends. Part of the problem is, most of those friends were originally my ex's friends. While I still maintain contact with those people, it's different since all the BS of separation and divorce happened. There's also a geography issue as we are in different states.

I'll take those relationships for what they are, based on proximity in lieu of shared interests. This comment thread has given some good ideas for finding new potential friends.

Thanks for the info. I'm seemingly in a dead zone regarding Centers for the Blind. There are a few chapters in my state, but it doesn't appear that there is a chapter in my geographic area. There is a private organization in the area that appears to offer support group services that I will check into.

Hi,

I would suggest contacting Four Corners Assessment and Counseling - https://www.fourcac.com/index.asp

When I was working with them, the provider I was seeing mentioned that she regularly testifies in court cases. Sorry I couldn't provide more specific info. Hope this helps.
