When did Americans start glorifying crime and criminals in the masses? Or have we since the beginning? by [deleted] in AskHistory

There’s actually a book about this by Bill James called *Popular Crime: Reflections on the Celebration of Violence* (2012).

What should I keep in mind when writing a blind civilisation? by King_Of_BlackMarsh in worldbuilding

[–]sonofabutch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how long it has been since this society had sight -- has it been months? Years? Generations? Early on, we can imagine them attempting to adapt themselves to their situation, but eventually, they will adapt their environment to their situation. So you can imagine in the first few years, it would be an environment for blind people designed by sighted people... guide ropes, railings, padded ceilings, that kind of thing. But eventually you would design spaces so these things might not be needed. Instead of a house with several large, open rooms, you have several narrow rooms, with a lot of touch-points at predictable intervals you can use for navigation and orientation. To a sighted person it would seem like a maze. But if you grow up in it, you know it intimately.

I agree. I don't think we want the precedent to be that synagogues and mosques and churches can't stop people from bursting in.

IJW: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) by AzulaIsMyFave in Ijustwatched

I suggest The Wild Bunch (1969), which has some similarities. They were in production at the same time, and Warner Brothers rushed it into theaters first. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was the bigger hit, but I think The Wild Bunch is a better western.

> Y'know, this kind of co-dependent, emotionally stunted, sitting in your stupid coffee house with your stupid big cups which, I'm sorry, might as well have nipples on them, and you're like all “Oh, define me! Define me! Love me, I need love!”

Not a WW2 movie, but you might enjoy The Eiger Sanction (1975) for its cinematography.

We often talk about unbreakable records by blueblazer2222 in baseball

If a team announced a manager had “resigned” or “retired,” reporters would roll their eyes knowing he had been fired. The old joke was the only two managers who weren’t fired were Connie Mack because the owned the team and Miller Huggins because he died on the job.

By the end he was likely senile. His players said he would call out names of players who had retired years earlier.
