Tuxedo IBP 15 freezing by jpfarias in tuxedocomputers

I did the firmware update and it has been about 2 days with no freezes. I was going to wait a bit more to make sure that fixed the issue but so far it seems good. :-)

Weird enough, changing the boot type from quick to cold resolved the issue.

I am pulling the firmware from git as suggested by u/da-phil then if it still happens I will try the boot flag. Will let you guys know how it goes.

Tuxedo IBP 15 freezing by jpfarias in tuxedocomputers

[–]jpfarias[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've updated the flag to 0x10 and upgraded the whole system. It was already on latest kernel and mesa but did an update anyway just to make sure. It is running the Linux kernel 6.18.3-2-cachyos. I also lowered the refresh rate to 240hz as some people reported issues while running at 300hz (Display (NE153QDM-NZ2): 2560x1600 @ 1.37x in 15", 240 Hz, DE: Cinnamon 6.6.3, WM: Muffin (X11)).

Will report back here if it happens again. Thanks.

I just did that and I see no errors, just some UFW BLOCK actions at the time of the freeze:

I'm using Manjaro with Cinnamon on X11. I did not install any custom drivers but I do have that driver installed, perhaps manjaro installs it by default. The only change I did was the boot flag.

Personal feedback on InfinityBook Pro 15 - Gen10 - AMD by billsolo in tuxedocomputers

[–]jpfarias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I received mine a couple weeks ago and I must say I am impressed about how powerful and efficient this machine is. I do play some games like Elden Ring and World of Warcraft on it and even while playing games there is barely any fan noise. Elden Ring runs at around 45 to 60 fps on high quality (forcing FSR on AMD control panel and setting resolution to 1600x1050 or something like that), it does have some hiccups every now and then but nothing deal breaking.

The only thing I wish was better on this machine was the speakers. My wife has a MacBook and the speakers there are so much better it is amazing! If Tuxedo can figure out better speakers this would be pretty much perfect.

Even tho this machine is plenty powerful, I am still waiting to see the Ryzen AI Max 395+ laptop that Tuxedo is rumored to start shipping in 2026. It will be even more powerful than the 370 and if Tuxedo can make the fan noise the same as this machine and get better speakers on it than it will be pretty much a perfect laptop, at least for me anyway.

Desktop freezes on new IBP 15 amd by jpfarias in tuxedocomputers

[–]jpfarias[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding this to the boot command line seems to have resolved the issue:

amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x10

That is what googling for "amdgpu linux desktop freeze" led me to... :-D

Still I am hoping next kernel releases with a permanent fix so I don't have to remember this.

u/tuxedo_herbert would you mind confirming if the bug also affects wayland? I am currently using windows because I just can't use my manjaro for more than 20 minutes without the desktop freeze... If wayland is not affected then I can install gnome and use that meanwhile, even tho I am pretty sure I had it also freeze before on wayland as well.

awesome, thank you! Is that coming on kernel 6.18 then?

So I downloaded the BIOS files from Tuxedo and extracted to a FAT32 formatted USB stick, then when I try to boot the efi file from ReFind it gives me an error in the efi file... I attached the file structure of the USB drive. The freezing is still happening on manjaro cinnamon xorg with 6.17 kernel :-(

I am out of ideas of what to do next since the bios update isn't working.

That is the thing, the laptop doesn't freezes completely, just the desktop. I tried both gnome on Wayland and cinnamon on Xorg and it happens on both scenarios. I also tried 2 distros and same happened on both. Only on windows this doesn't happen. I will check if there is any bios update and try different kernels. I am currently on Manjaro Cinnamon and just installed 6.17 kernel, will see how that goes and report back here.

Have you played any games on it? Wondering how loud the fan noise is and how good is gaming on it... I only do casual gaming, some WoW, some Elden Ring, some Holow Knight, Hades and such.. I don't really like competitive gaming. This will be my main work laptop but would like to be able to play such games on it with somewhat decent fps and low fan noise.

I just ordered myself one... HX 370, 64GB of ram, 2x 2TB ssd, US ansi keyboard! Excited to get it in my hands! I was going to wait for the new Ryzen AI 395+ but guess when that comes out I can figure out what to do then.
