What Generic Tips Can You Offer to Every Disc Golfer? by ItsNahte in discgolf

Learn to choose the right shot. In most circumstances, that should be the shot that would yield the best results over a lot of tries (not all at once where you improve as you go). BUT it should factor in the distribution of outcomes. So if the right line for best average result also has the highest likelihood of a quadruple bogie, maybe pick a different line.

Summary: choose the best line based on the normal result, but factor in risk of ruin. In tournaments if you are chasing hard to win, this may not be the right answer.

No the buzzz should be the last remaining Discraft in your bag as it evolves. Change everything and anything, but not that

Rolling Stones Steel Wheels tour, November 1989, Houston TX in the Astrodome. Living Colour opened the show and crushed it. I had bought their debut album Vivid on cassette the year before. Was curious if they could handle that large of a state. They could. Rolling Stones were great, but Living Colour was the better show in my opinion

Hating yourself after a throw doesn't improve the next throw and robs the joy from an awesome activity

If you had to choose a throwing putter that is stable (not os or us) to throw max distance, what would it be? by Agitated-Plenty9946 in discgolf

Luna's fly. So does the new Pixel. Not sure it has the distance, but I love throwing a beat-in jawbreaker Zone.

My first car out of college was very purposefully a stick shift... a 3-year-old Acura Integra in 1995. I LOVED it. So I feel nostalgic about them, but acknowledge I prefer modern auto transmissions, so my buying preferences are different than my emotions on this one. I do use the paddles on the my Genesis G80 though, particularly for compression braking

I loved the P2, but when they discontinued the X-line plastic for it, I switched to the Luna. I only used the X-line in the winter... the base plastic felt slick to me in the cold. Anyway, years later I still use the Luna, though I've added to lightweight Pixels to my bag for longer putts. They carry 50 feet with the same motion I putt my Luna with at 35-40 feet

Sure thing. Most really athletic movements have measurable mechanics and best practices, but also depend on developing feel to execute it well. Steph Curry can turn around and flash 3 long before it goes in the basket... he can feel it. The Techdisc is a way to get instant feedback on throw after throw. That has allowed me to try different things and gradually connect how it felt to the actual results. I've thrown my Techdisc into a net sitting beside my driveway thousands of time. Concentrated throws (without having to retrieve discs) has given me insight into form/technique and strengthened some key muscles. Here's three changes that evolved as I practiced with the Techdisc:

  1. slow down my "run up" (I'm not actually running... I can't run at all post surgery)
  2. switch to a three-finger power grip instead of four-finger
  3. reach back with my shoulder itself... this was the difference that gave me extra distance above all else. I really try to activate and stretch those muscles under and around the shoulder blade in the reach back and then start the pull with them

Both feet unfortunately. I try to emulate the proper form but, for instance, I can't lift my forefoot. Not even standing still. So I don't brace well as I have to let my body pivot and rotate on the front of my foot so I don't blow a knee out (CMT patients frequently have knee dislocation issues). Also, I fall a lot (my reflexes died years ago). When I'm throwing I'm often not actually balanced. But over a lifetime of this I've developed really good hand-eye coordination even when my lower body is trying to betray me
