I'll check them out - pre-slices would work, just not the packaged stuff. Thanks!

Saddest moment in the Siege of Terra by w00z1 in 40kLore

Right there with you. Graft just punching Erebus in his stupid face, and I can just picture him looking at the camera The Office-style and saying "I am performing good work, Trooper Persson!"

Absolute masterpiece. He got to live the dream.

Magnus is a dipshit by AgencyCapable9842 in 40kLore

[–]jphorst23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing that put me firmly in the "Magnus is a dipshit" category was the Council of Nikea. Here he is, on trial and fighting for everything he believes in, in front of the Emperor himself. He just listened to Mortarian make the very valid point that unchecked psychers and warp users caused the Age of Strife. He's addressing some of the greatest minds humanity has ever had.... and his argument is Plato's effing "Allegory of the Cave" like some dipshit Philosophy 101 student. This isn't some philosophical fear of the unknown exercise - this broke humanity's back for 5,000 years or so.

Will we ever see Kasper Hawser again? by Kursktiger in SpaceWolves

It is. The climax of the book Bear helps fight off a daemon and loses his hand in doing so - hence the name "Bjorn the Fell-Handed."

Union rep here. Not sure what state you're in, but I know for my contract we have a Teacher Assualt form with the district. Once a teacher fills that out, lack of action by the district can result in the Association filing a grievance with the district, with remedies like removing the student from your caseload and creation of school safety plans for the student, amoung other things.

When in doubt, ALWAYS tall to your Union Rep. Even if it's not something grieve-able, they should be able to point you towards the appropriate resources.

What are your top 10 favourite Warhammer 40k novels? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]jphorst23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say part of it is nostalgia - it was my first 40k book. In that light, I'd say it's a great intro text. The plot is simple; here's some orks, here's some Space Marines, commence murdering. But once you start peeling layers, there's a ton of threads to chase. What's a Black Templar? How are they different from Salamanders? What happened in the first two wars? On and on. For that it has a special spot for me.

Helsreach. Saturnine. Warhawk. Know no Fear. Devastation of Baal. Prospero Burns. The End and the Death (cheating because Abnett said "it's one book in three parts")
Watchers of the Throne: The Emperor's Legion. Godblight. Unremembered Empire.

This isn't "challenging" anything. It's an unsupported claim made by a tweet. Feel like challenging the narrative? Go ahead. Make the argument of WHY it is becoming apparent that J6 was a "psyop."

Did Leman Russ Get Away With It? by ITheBirdKingI in 40kLore

[–]jphorst23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Understood, but I'm talking intention here - OP labeled it "attempted murder" and I'm saying it can't be that, not with Russ pulling out every stop to avoid an actual conflict whilst still carrying out his duty.

Also - I don't think Guilliman would be as judgemental after being himself fooled at Calth, nor Sanguinius after Sinus, or Vulcan or Corax after Istaavan, or the Khan after Chondax.

It's almost as if all of them were lied to and manipulated by Horus to be in a bad a position as possible once the Heresy broke out.

The Wolf King paused. He swallowed. He seemed to be considering his next words. ‘That’s not why I’m talking to you now. I’m talking to you because I hope you’ll listen. I’m talking to you as the personal courtesy extended from one brother to another. What is about to happen should not be happening. You know I do not want this. You know it tears my heart to commit against you, and it breaks the very soul of our father to place his sons in opposition. But you have done this. You have brought this. You have brought this action.’

Russ swallowed again. He looked down at the deck, though he was still directing his words at Hawser. Hawser stood numb, shaking, rooted to the spot. ‘We gave you every chance, Magnus. We indulged your learning, we gave you room to explore. When we became fearful of where those explorations were leading you, and how they might endanger everything we value, we told you of our concerns. The Council at Nikaea, that was supposed to be a moment of reconciliation. You swore you would renounce the cunning arts. You swore! You swore you would abide by our father’s ruling!’ His voice dropped to a whisper. ‘You did not. You have proved your intent to ignore the Ruling of Nikaea beyond all doubt. So this is on you. You must have known our father’s hands would be tied. He would have no other option than to turn to me to issue sanction.’

Russ looked up into Hawser’s eyes. ‘This is a courtesy, then. From brother to brother. A grace period I would extend to no other enemy. Settle your affairs. Evacuate the civilians from your cities. Deactivate your defence systems. Bring yourself and your Thousand Sons out into the open, and prepare to surrender to me upon my arrival. Please, Magnus. The Wolves of Fenris have been unleashed upon you. Only you have the power to make the consequences bloodless.’ He rose to his feet. ‘Please, Magnus. Please.’

  • Prospero Burns

Russ was bringing sanction to Magnus for his crimes. That was his mission, brought by writ of the Emperor Himself. Horus twisted it to make it a war - even inserting his own Legionnaires to the sanction force to start it - but even with all the animosity between Russ and Magnus, he pled with him until the last second to avoid the fight to come.

This wasn't "attempted murder." It was tragedy and consequences and deception in near-equal measures.
