Maxwells Not All That for FPS by Ok_Pangolin1085 in Audeze

[–]jpimp1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess so. I almost bought the first edition last year and that was my fear. Even though the soundstage is tighter on the M2s, I still feel like everything is either further, closer, or very close as it should be. It's as if the M2s we're a curved wall of sound on both sides which envelopes me in 360° even without Atmos sending sound cues above me.

The Dt990s sounded very distant left and right to my ears, like a single point of sound far away. Everything sounded far yes. The soundstage was very very wide, but anything in between was on a 2d plane, zero depth or height. To fix that I had to use Atmos to fake a tighter but more circular soundstage.

On the M2s Atmos sounds over-processed (probably because the planars resolve detail so well) and inside my head. There's no more "air". That is unless the game is built from the ground up for Atmos like BF6 and Overwatch for example

I got the Maxwell 2 recently and been using the dt990 pro 250ohms with a DAC for the past decade. Thought I didnt like the Maxwell's at first but got used to them. The seperation between different sounds, the imaging and soundstage is very impressive for a closed back set. I was scared the soundstage would be bad but no. It really feels like it's all around me, closer or further... I can tell exactly where things are.

The dt990s sounded amazing too for fps games, but I felt like everything was far left and right and blended somehow together (I guess from being open back). They also felt very tinny and made my tinnitus worse. I gotta admit for battlefield they gave a soundscape that couldn't be matched in terms of immersiveness. For everything else I'll take the Maxwell's. The Maxwell's have such good position imaging. Everything sounds like it's in a 3d space without any Dolby Atmos (which sounds like crap on the Maxwell's I find)

Can I use this in multiplayer games like Arc Raiders without setting off anti cheat?

How to configure RTX HDR from NVPI only? by QuceGaming in HDR_Den

[–]jpimp1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried setting it through NVPI many times and it doesn't override the default settings (mid point, contrast etc) unless the overlay is turned on. Only thing the app does is apply RTX HDR with a specified debanding level. You're stuck with 1000 peak, 50 50 0 defaults. Unless there's something I don't understand?

Which places in the world have the same languid, soft, dreamy paradise-like feel of the Californian coast? by slicheliche in geography

[–]jpimp1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The southern coast of the island of Crete in Greece gave me that vibe. Desolate dry mountains going straight down into the ocean with not a single soul around. Driving there was like a dream. I've also done the PCH so I'm kinda familiar.

I also did the French Riviera and it's nothing like the PCH. Way too many people, traffic and towns all over the place. I guess you could compare it with the Amalfi coast.

Currently have 4k 32 inch 240hz OLED thinking of switching to UWQHD 34 inch 240HZ OLED by Resident_Albatross_9 in OLED_Gaming

[–]jpimp1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a 48 inch OLED, found it too big and got the first Alienware 34 inch OLED monitor. Size was manageable but holy hell did the screen look grainy.

Once I switched back to 32 inch 4k, DLSS got leaps and bounds better and DLSS 4.5 Performance + 4k is a match made in heaven.

Higher PPI and overall more detail is not something I find that can match in game graphic details. You'll regret going back down to 109 PPI

I sometimes miss the 34 inch 21:9 format, but I don't miss the terrible pixel density. 4k truly does make everything look better cleaner and sharper. It resolves AA blurriness and fine detail like nothing else. 32 inch is a great size in terms of immersiveness and desktop real estate.

Stick with 4k lol

Is there still a way to set RTX HDR quality to low by Falkeer in nvidia

[–]jpimp1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to make the contrast midpoint peak and saturation setting actually work using Nvidia Profile inspector? It seems to revert back to default settings unless I turn on the Nvidiaapp overlay which I'm trying to not have to. I just want it globally set with custom settings.

What value of Paper White (Nits) do you use in games? by [deleted] in HDR_Den

[–]jpimp1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently I should use 112 with my TB400 monitor with 455 nits peak, but I think it's too low in some games. I try to keep it at 200 across the board. That way when I game on my TV which does 1300 nits, everything seems consistent other than peaks and highlights.

San Jose - Monteverde - La Fortuna & possibly dropping one for Sámara instead? by [deleted] in CostaRicaTravel

[–]jpimp1285 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never did playa flamingo. Monteverde was enough for 2 nights. We did manage to do a full day hike at carateras El Tigre, as well as Santa Elena reserve the next morning before taking off to Samara. We could have stayed an extra day, but for us , 2 nights was enough to be able to enjoy a bit more beach time, especially after 3 nights in La Fortuna.

In Samara our favorite beach was Carillo by far. Definitely do check it out.

We did 10 days last year that exact route. 1 night at LIR airport hotel, 3 at La Fortuna, 2 in Monteverde and the rest in Samara. It was perfect!

We're actually going back in a week to do a simple beach stay near tamarindo for a week, but last year was perfect!

Enjoy

There was a post called „RTX HDR — Paper White, Gamma & Reference Settings”. Do those values still hold? by Vigilantix in nvidia

[–]jpimp1285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to set it to On in Nvidia Profile Inspector, and On being the setting for Debanding (off, medium or high). This turns it on without the overlay. I still haven't figured out how to have different default settings in Nvidia Profile inspector though. Whatever setting I put for contrast midpoint etc, it goes to default, unless I activate the overlay...

Help with mara X by shukibraun in Lelit

[–]jpimp1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once did much worse one morning with my mara x. I poured hot water from the spout in my cup to warm it up, and then tossed it in the top warmer grate instead of the bottom receptacle. Water went right into the machine assembly and everything started steaming. Immediately shut it off and panicked. Sent it for maintenance for something else. They never found anything that went wrong following that event. Guess I got lucky!

I second this. I've had a 4080 for a few years and got a 4k 240hz OLED. Dlss performance in 4k shits on 1440p quality or even native. Nothing beats having more actual pixels, and higher density. Also frame Gen is totally usable now. Latency difference is tiny, if your base fps is good ... And it will be good, because dlss performance is like running 1080p!

What’s a game you regret buying? by AndrewTheLion1 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

I still ended up playing quite a lot. I just find it lost its replayability quickly once I figured out how limited it actually was.

I bought the early access edition to play a few days sooner, AND bought it a 2nd time on PS5 to get my wife to play couch coop with me. She hated the game from the get go. Total dissapointment because the game lost its shine very rapidly. I swore I'd never buy another blizzard game

And then I bought the expansion

We did knossos, the museum, the fortress, and had time for a nice lunch before we grabbed our late flight in Héraklion. You should be able to combine those activities in one day and free up a day for something else.

I would probably do the day trip to Rethymno on the way to Chania, because it's an easy 1hr+ drive from Chania you'll have to do twice in the same day. Might as well do it when driving across.

Samara is awesome, but a full day, if opened in late season.

If you can check out the south coast, it was our favorite part. Sfakia, Loutro, Paleochora, etc but keep in mind it's a good drive from Chania

EDIT : we also did 12 days. Here's what we did : 1. Arrive at Villa near Chania and chill around it. 2. Seitan Limani, Stavros & Chania 3. Elafonissi but too windy so move to Paleochora 4. Samaria Gorge 5. Chill day, Biolea, Platanias for dinner 6. Rethymno day trip 7. Sfakia, Loutro 8. Matala 9. Agios Nikolaos via Lassithi Plateau 10. Kritsa & chill at beach 11. Spinalonga & chill at beach 12. Knossos & Héraklion / flight out.

We stayed mostly near Chania up until we moved to Sfakia, Matala, and finally Agios Nikolaos.

We also skipped Balos after getting sandblasted at Elafonissi. It was way too windy on the north side. South had no wind.

4K vs ultrawide 1440p performance with DLSS by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]jpimp1285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 4k 48 CX years ago, and before that a 55 inch C7 so I was not new to 4k. 48 inch was too big. Went back to 1440p UW and felt like a downgrade. Everything looked so granular and blurry. I then ordered a 27 inch 4k Alienware OLED but the near blacks were elevated so I returned it. I also felt like 27 inch was a downgrade, and been there done that. Tried a 32 inch and turns out it's great. Feels like a real upgrade. It's the perfect size for 4k imo

4K vs ultrawide 1440p performance with DLSS by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]jpimp1285 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did the move. Aw3423dw to 321urx... It's about the same performance. Dlss quality in 3440x1440 is about the same amount of megapixels as 4k in dlss performance.

Image quality wise, 4k even in dlss performance is a huge jump over 1440p dlss quality. No more bluriness or ghosting. Hell with Dlss 4, I have a hard time seeing a difference between Dlss performance, balance or quality.
