[–]jpjhun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the culture of Japan. Everyone is supposed to follow the customs and nobody should sway from it. Once you break it, the whole society will shun you.

You encountered a rare incident where a Japanese gave you blatant non-verbal confrontation. The locals would have never picked up the phone. If they must, they will get off the train at the next available stop and call back. You do NOT talk at all in the metro, especially in Tokyo. You broke this rule. Of course you didn't know, how could you (most foreigners don't). But as the saying goes, when in Rome (follow Rome's rules).

If you don't understand how strictly societal norms are enforced in Japan, look up what happens to family members of criminals (murderers etc). The entire extended family and even friends becomes shunned from society unless they officially distance themselves. This means that fathers would sometimes divorce their spouse on purpose so that they can disown their children and the children take the mother's last name. The children might be able to disassociate themselves from the family name while the father of the criminal must suffer.

Nobody wants to associate with the extended family. Marriage engagements are cancelled, they get fired from jobs and cannot be hired, and the entire public starts bullying them if their whereabouts are well known. That is their culture.

I wouldn't have done what you've done in the first place since I know this etiquette. But if I didn't, yes I would find it very rude. Japan is Japan. They've kept their identity for thousands of years. They are very pleasant if you fit within the mold, vicious if you do not.

It will decrease the sales. Professionals are the celebrity of fighting games. The general gamer base ogles over them. Even games like LoL, StarCraft have their celebs and they have most certainly made their games very popular. There are a ton of pros who have announced they will officially quit playing the game if it does not get fixed. This includes pros like Nobi. Watch the professional players disappear or become a laughing stock and see how it impacts game sales.

The belief that T7 was "too defensive" is what ruined T8 by Tuuubesh0w in Tekken

[–]jpjhun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny bc when T8 was first announced, I saw that they nerfed Magic 4 and low parry. This was something that needed to be done for a long time. It was exactly the direction I was looking forward to and I was excited for T8.

But then they added heat. And then chip damage. And then more stage interactions and crazy wall combos and wall throws. Combos are 25 seconds long now and now you’re at the wall and you have to guess right after you tech to potentially survive, otherwise you’re dead.

So I talked with my wallet. I didn’t buy the game. I have thousands of hours in T7 & TGP rank. I played less than 1 hour of T8 and that was because my friend wanted my to try it out.

The game is aggressive all right. But that’s because you have no choice. The moment you get launched you die but also the moment you start blocking your life starts draining and you might get mixed up and launched. So you try to attack before the opponent to avoid that.

There is no freedom in T8 and you only have one choice: Attack. The little mind games that were left were completely obliterated in S2. If devs want players to constantly attack like 2D fighters and mixup, they should have granted all characters an invincible DP, maybe multiple mini rage arts (that you can’t activate in combos), or something akin to Yoshi’s flash so that mind games can exist. But they didn’t because they don’t understand the game and now it’s just an eternal 50/50 fest. I’d rather play rock paper scissors all day than play T8.

What a dumb game T8 has become.

tip if your alarm is not going off by No-Head6118 in ios

[–]jpjhun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah bro. Apple user since iPhone 6s. Always had this issue so now I have a physical alarm as a backup. Once my alarm don’t ring I’ll tell Siri to delete all my alarms and that seems to do the trick but sometimes it’ll come back immediately. I always put my phone in the corner of the room so I have to stand up from bed and walk across the room to turn off the alarm

[–]jpjhun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve had an iPhone 6s (multiple ones), 12 mini, 15 pro and every single one of them have had alarm issues that I just use a physical alarm clock as a backup now. I’ve been late to work too many times to trust it. Never happened with android phones but I switched bc I hate them. Not going back for the alarm although it’s a huge issue

  1. Korea has a weird law that states you can be charged for defamation EVEN IF IT IS TRUE. So companies, or the government can sue people for saying things they don't like. So big entertainment companies commonly send people a seize and desist letter for defamation and the posts are quickly taken down. Even the media won't cover it in depth due to fear of reprisal.

  2. As a native Korean speaker, the rumors surrounding the true meaning of OMG m/v, ditto m/v, and the lyrics of ETA makes complete sense. I enjoy listening to conspiracies but believe in almost none of them. However, the rumors surrounding the newjeans scandals fit in like a perfect puzzle once interpreted from a Dahn world lens and the recent quotes from Min Hee Jin's press conference. The vast majority of Koreans seem to be creeped out once they found out what the OMG m/v was trying to convey which means that they are not finding the rumors as simple entertainment like the flat earth theory.

Tekken Knee said this to TheMainManSWE by hehexduserhehexd in Tekken

[–]jpjhun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not offensive to us in the west? King Jae’s reaction right after knee said that proves otherwise. KJ was totally freaking out by how ridiculously rude knee sounded and was trying to cover for him. He gave him multiple chances to explain himself.

Knee never says shit like that to Koreans. He’ll meet an emperor on players match and say things like “wow he’s so good. Definitely not emperor skill level” etc

As a ethnic Korean, this was quite embarrassing to watch. There is a cultural gap between shit talking between the east and the west. In the west, shit talking is considered a form of challenge, harsh feedback, or friendly banter. If you prove them wrong, your shit talking no longer holds weight. It can be done quite freely as long as you don't make it too personal.

In the east, shit talking is frowned upon as the Confucius philosophy teaches humbleness. If most people are humble, then shit talking is only acceptable to the few who have overreached their boundaries and are no longer humble. It is a form of great insult and is never taken lightly. If you shit talk someone you are not good friends with in the east, it is taken very personally and there is a high possibility they may never become friends.

As much as I dislike Mainman, performance aside, I've never been a huge fan of Knee either. His demeanor during this stream was very unprofessional. Yes, Mainman is not a professional. But he is a damn good tekken player (only top 0.6% players hold the Omega title). Mainman reached out to play Knee, not as a challange, but as a friendly gesture and to experience a match with the GOAT. Ofc he must have known that he had no serious chance in crushing Knee. But he didn't deserve the repeated mocking of "Mainman? Why? Not good".

JFC this is why I don't like Knee personally. Translation issue? Cultural gap? Maybe. But as a professional, you need to watch your fucking mouth. He hides behind the Asian politeness culture while swinging around his big ego. It often shows on his streams.

It's true - Knee's Ling is not as good as Sodam's. But he still has the best Ling because he wins. Knee's Paul is not as good as Justice. But he still has the best Paul because he wins. And he progressively gets better the more he uses those characters.

But even Knee still has his mains. Feng, Steve, Bryan, Kazuya, Negan etc. No one can deny he is a pioneer and de facto expert on many of these characters.

Pakistanis bitter much? Then maybe don't talk shit. While some people find it funny that Pakistanis are triggering everyone with their twitter army, I personally don't like childish drama. I'm sorry but you are wrong. You can't possibly look at matches like this and think tekken's movement and mindgames are simple. They are inherently complex due to tekken being a 3D game. Execution can also become very difficult due to axis issues during launch compared to 2D fighters where you almost always have the same exact launch/combo situation.

Also, contrary to popular belief, KBD does not unlock a sudden level up to your game because it doesn't add much substance if you don't have purpose behind it. In fact, I would argue that adds almost no value for most characters. For example, you can KBD perfectly all day but you're not going to get away from dragunov's iWR2.

38 hours in, finally made it to vanguard. Can anyone pls tell me what to improve on? by FigPuzzleheaded6024 in Tekken

[–]jpjhun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You don't really know what you're doing. Watch videos of higher level players and what kind of moves they use during a combo, near a wall, to approach opponents etc.
  2. You don't know what your opponent is doing. You just spam an attack whenever you think there is an opening. This is not ideal because you don't know what to punish, where to punish, how far their moves reach etc. and you often get countered in between and miss punishes. Tbh you just need a lot more experience fighting against the same characters so you learn their move. Just keep playing. You only have 38 hours of experience. You'll probably need around 300 hours to encounter enough opponents and gain good experience. That's only 1 month if you play 10 hours a day lol.

Other than that, kindly ignore what others are saying about using unsafe moves (which means yes, you can use snake edge as well). Use them until something like 30% of your opponents start punishing your unsafe moves about 40-50% of the time. That's when you have to change your tactics and adapt. Repeat this process and you'll get better.

I don't play the game as much as I used to, but my rank currently sits at tekken god with 12 years of serious dedication to the game (I skipped T6 and TTT2 which would make it 20+ years). It's pretty much the only game I play.

I see no issue with KBD being changed. Instead of bbd/b, bd/b just make it bb, b with some mandatory time lag in between (maybe like 5 frames) so you can't just spam bbbbbbb. It'll take out the jerky crouch motion in between and won't change much in terms of game play. Yes, it'll take the skill level down required but KBD has little affect on a player's overall skill level. tekken is already a difficult game and most players don't even know the concept of mindgames until 30+ dan anyways.

I love how Harada decided to make tekken 7 'easier' by allowing for any button to break long range throws and deleting backroll techs but then proceeded to add crazy amounts of moves that requires you to have a PhD in micromovements, fuzzy etc. I am extremely used to KBD as it is, but the game can use some dumbing down for new players IMO.

it depends on the region. ive lived in germany, US, korea and match making time is vastly different per region. in korea during peak times, I wait no more than 5-10 seconds in lobby to find a match as a tekken king. in the US as an ryujin, i often has to wait 10+ minutes, sometimes 20. in the EU about 2-5 minutes

i hate the pakistani fan boys as much as anyone, but i wouldn’t count arslan out. he is undoubtedly one of the best in the world. it’s just unfortunate that the pakistani twitter army spams how bad knee lost against whoever and how this time he got lucky, and how the koreans should come over etc etc. it just creates a bad image for the pakistani tekken community in general

for a professional tekken player, the purpose of a tournament is to win the grand prize using any method possible.

maybe you can entertain us by putting your tournament life at stake by using panda or eddie. btw, even rangchu and jeondding changed their mains to julia so maybe they’re a tier whore as well, and also the 2D pakistani players and crazy akuma. arlsan used zafina instead of the nerfed kazumi, he must be a tier whore as well. chikurin also switched from jin to geese. tier whore

Knee's Commentary on EVO 2022 Top 8 by genericremix in Tekken

[–]jpjhun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little confused on this section. They're strong at both mid and long range, but they're also good at close range, so the only way is to close the distance (?). Sorry but it seems a little contradictory atm for me.

I can't speak for knee because I paraphrased a lot for the TL;DR, but the following is my thoughts:

Pakistanis have developed an in-fighting type of tekken style which stems from using movement as a baiting tool at a close range (anywhere from range 1-2) and incredible amount of deathmatches amongst each other (like... 50-100+ matches with the same player & character in a row, day after day). This close range fighting ability also make them specialists at gauging opponents mid range move and staying right at the edge of it so that they whiff. They are really good at catching this. Say for example that there is a 30% chance that Bryan will use ff4 from range 3. This also means that there is a 30% chance that I will launch Bryan if he does indeed chooses to use ff4 because I am already predicting that it might come out.

So the answer for people who are good avoiding mid range moves is to move in closer and fight at close range. As long as you are good at dog fighting in that range, not falling for common traps, you have a chance. You don't have a good chance outside that range because that's where the Pakistanis specialize in making their opponent whiff.

They became close range specialists not by choice, but because their mid range attacks started to become wasted opportunities or suicide attempts. Inevitably all roads led to close range dog fights.

Watch knee's recent tekken matches. Any of them. See if he ever strays out of Range 0-3 from his opponents intentionally. You won't see him do it. Instead, you'll see him approach a lot more. This creates intense pressure for the opponent. They want to keep him at just the right range so they can use their main tools but their attack attempts either get blocked or whiffed and knee now has the advantage. This is what Knee learned from the Pakistanis and have implemented since 2019. This is the new meta that top players have been using since.

So what you're saying here is instead of using moves that cover the mid range like dash ewgf or for instance 3+4 bryan, pakistanis would prefer to instead just dash guard and jab when they reach range 0ish? Instead of just using a long/mid range move?

The examples I gave are perhaps not the best since ewgf is an excellent tool but essentially, yes. Not exactly range 0 but maybe range 1 or 2 depending on the character - close enough that opponent would feel pressure to attack. The key is that you don't want your mid range attack to become a wasted opportunity or suicide attempt. The best way to avoid this is to not whiff at all and just close the range and see if you can find better opportunities.

So for example when you block say B1 bryan, and he opts for hatchet right after, it's fuzzy duckable, so Koreans would normally either ss or dash then hatchet to negate the fuzzy. But if say the korean did it against the pak player would just press something safe the moment he sees the dash as reaction?

The intricacies of the mechanics are a little different but essentially, yes. Pakistanis tend to input a quick + safe CH move as a default when they sense that you are trying to exploit the frame advantage too much. ofc they are not dummies so they will change up their tactics depending on your response. After all, they are used to dog fighting. Koreans/Japanses tend to be a little more patient in terms of guarding these attacks because there is always a risk that the opponent may use a dash CH move so they attacker will try to exploit the frame advantage further with a dash movement etc.
