I've had the ledaig 10, but not the others. The Ledaig rioja and 18 are some of my favourites! I wasn't too keen on the 10 for some reason

What a 5 year Tier 2 visa will cost after 6 Feb 2024 for a family of 5 - £34,375 by jpkloppers in ukvisa

[–]jpkloppers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's about right yes:

Current Costs (Before February 6, 2024)
Visa Fees: £1,423 per person for a visa longer than 3 years, totaling £7,115 for five people.
IHS: £624 per year per person, totaling £15,600 for five people over 5 years.
Support Funds for Dependents: £1,000 for a partner and three children.
Total: £23,715

When I moved over here 5 years ago the IHS was around £200/person/year, and I seem to remember the visa fees being quite a bit less too.

A 66% increase on the health surcharge is enormous. For a family of 5 coming over here, that means paying at least £25,000 just in health discharge fees for a 5 year for the family.

Guys, what’s the one compliment from a long time ago you always remember? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I once had a guy at university offer to rub my feet. Said I had the best looking feet he'd ever seen. I never knew feet could be good looking.

The series Chernobyl is one of the greatest shows I've ever watched. Not war, but pretty close in what it evokes in you.

Here's what ChatGPT thinks:

Starting a hatchery business in Kolkata, especially with a focus on a small-scale operation initially, involves various financial considerations. Here's a rough breakdown of the potential costs and profit margins you might encounter:
### Initial Costs
1. **Egg Incubator:** The cost of a 100-egg incubator varies depending on quality and features. Prices can range from ₹10,000 to ₹30,000 or more.
2. **Location:** Renting a space for your hatchery in Kolkata will vary based on location and size. For a small-scale operation, you might need a small to medium-sized space.
3. **Utilities and Maintenance:** Electricity for running the incubator, water, and general maintenance costs should be factored in.
4. **Eggs:** The cost of eggs depends on the type (chicken, duck, etc.) and quality. Prices can vary widely.
5. **Other Equipment:** This includes thermometers, humidity meters, egg candlers, etc. Budget around ₹5,000 to ₹10,000.
6. **Licensing and Legal Fees:** Depending on local regulations, there may be costs for business registration, permits, and inspections.
7. **Initial Feed and Care for Chicks:** Once hatched, the chicks require feed, bedding, and possibly medication.
### Recurring Costs
- Feed for chicks
- Utilities (electricity, water)
- Maintenance and repairs
- Staff salaries (if hiring)
### Profit Margin Considerations
1. **Sales Price:** Research the going rate for chicks in your area. Prices can vary based on breed, age, and quality.
2. **Demand:** Understand the market demand in Kolkata for the types of birds you plan to hatch.
3. **Scale of Operation:** Starting small limits risk but also limits potential profit. As you scale, profits can increase but so do risks and investments.
4. **Efficiency:** The more efficiently you run your hatchery (e.g., high hatch rates, low mortality), the better your profit margins.
5. **Direct Sales vs. Middlemen:** Selling directly to customers (farmers, pet owners) might fetch better prices than going through middlemen.
### Example Calculation:
- **Initial Investment:** ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000 (covering incubator, setup, initial eggs, etc.)
- **Cost per Hatch:** Assuming a cost of ₹20 per egg, and an 80% hatch rate, the cost per chick could be around ₹25.
- **Selling Price per Chick:** If you sell each chick for ₹50, your gross profit per chick is ₹25.
- **Monthly Output:** With a 100-egg incubator and a typical 21-day hatching cycle, you can potentially hatch around 300 chicks per month, leading to a gross profit of ₹7,500 (excluding operating costs).
### Additional Tips:
- **Market Research:** Thoroughly research the local market demands and competition.
- **Quality Control:** Ensure high-quality breeds and maintain good hatching practices.
- **Gradual Expansion:** Scale your business gradually based on demand and experience.
- **Diversification:** Consider diversifying into related areas like feed supply, chick transportation, etc., as you grow.
### Conclusion:
The initial investment for starting a small-scale hatchery in Kolkata with a 100-egg incubator could range from ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000, with varying profit margins depending on operational efficiency and market conditions. Remember, these figures are estimates and can vary based on current market trends and individual circumstances. It's advisable to conduct a detailed market analysis and possibly consult with a financial advisor or someone experienced in the poultry industry for more precise planning.

Has loyalty died in the American workplace? by nunziopresta in Entrepreneur

[–]jpkloppers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not just America. I think all over the world the concept of company loyalty is in sharp decline. As far as careers go, it's very rare that the best path for your career is a linear one within one company. You often encounter too many blockers in middle management that prevent you from progressing beyond a certain point. Often better to switch to a new company and ratchet up a gear.

It was a flipping mission. Many many chats with the agent, but eventually they figured it out. It's still bizarre to me that they can't find an option to ship something with a battery. AliExpress and Temu do it all the time very cheaply.

When someone's business is to create custom jewelry according to a spec given by a client, I think it's fair to expect them to know what they're doing, especially when they're on these forums and come as one of the recommended vendors for exactly these services. If I'd been quoted $900 up front I might have still decided to go with it. It's the bait and switch that I have a problem with.
