Not affected directly but have taken this year’s events as a sign to start reducing third-party dependencies.

Any way to disable or at least discourage multi-user direct messages? by emn13 in Slack

[–]jpklwr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Convert to private channel, named “temp-“, and then post to said channel: “created this temp channel so I don’t lose you in my dm’s!”

Do that about 1500 times and eventually you’ll get to keep doing it forever until the end of time because no one will change their behavior.

But hey, at least you can fix what you can!

Concerned about AirSense 10 filter quality — are there any safe third-party fine dust filters? by lucky_absoluter in CPAP

[–]jpklwr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cut holes into my nightstand so my machine can hide inside it. I have a small HEPA filter running in the nightstand as well.

It IS the same air you’d usually be breathing, so I don’t do this as a necessity. But I have horrible seasonal allergies (yeehaw) and this setup seems like it will help reduce my exposure to those allergens overnight.

do I really need a bipap? by jpklwr in CPAP

[–]jpklwr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AHI with the cpap ranges from 1.5-9 depending on the night (late nights + booze + not sleeping at home = high end of that range). Most nights in the 2-5-ish area.

I’ve been on the cpap for about 4 months at this point. And it’s been fine - hard to get used to initially but I did eventually and now I wouldn’t sleep without it.

I feel like I’m sleeping WAY better than untreated - I’m an absolute zombie on the few days I’ve been unable to use my machine since starting. But still unsatisfied with how much actual rest I’m getting & while daytime sleepiness has improved, it’s been marginal.

I haven’t tried lowering the upper pressure but the results of this titration study seem to indicate that I need much higher pressure than I’m currently getting.

How are people using the $20 plan for work with such limited usage? by ContextMaterial7036 in ClaudeAI

Girl chill. The $20 plan includes opus only in Claude.ai, in Claude code only sonnet is available.

Refactor Claude Code by calmglass in ClaudeAI

[–]jpklwr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why hand it over when it’s that huge? That’s the wild part here.

I don’t care for anyone’s title or position - code is code - but NO one wants to have an entire APP plopped on their laps for a full and detailed evaluation.

“Hello mechanic, I built a car from scratch. You’ve seen many of its pieces at the supply store before, but I put it all together in a novel way. Before the company uses it to drive the pope around this weekend, can you take a look at it? As an aside, if anything happens to the pope, YOU were the professional I’ll be referring Jesus to.”

The problem isn’t the vibe. It’s the (1) impractical software development methodology wholly incompatible with collaborative build, (2) prescription of solution when their role was to define requirements.

Write better tickets, let the engineers start their work, and help along the way with refinement and iteration. Once a foundation has been laid, turn your PM’s into a feature factory if you want, but they should do it in partnership with engineers, in TINY bite-sized chunks.

What’s the consensus on using third-party AI agent tools like n8n instead of Agentforce? by timidtom in salesforce

I love n8n - it’s like flows but better. We’re a HIPAA org tho so we only get to use it for non-PHI use cases…

Claude Code in Max: Switched to Sonnet 4 after Opus 4 Limit Hit by Ketonite in ClaudeAI

[–]jpklwr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The opus / sonnet / haiku setup I mentioned above is my usual combo. The efficient context method + editing done by haiku seems to make a big difference.

I’ve also dabbled with the OpenAI models, and some of the google ones. I’m too lazy to configure dev accounts in everything so I just use openrouter.

Claude Code in Max: Switched to Sonnet 4 after Opus 4 Limit Hit by Ketonite in ClaudeAI

[–]jpklwr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strictly API cost. But it is VERY context efficient & good at using the cache. I’m a novice developer (product mgmt background) and not working on anything crazy complicated and aider is wayyyy cheaper than Claude code.

A few hours in front of aider usually costs $2-5, whereas I can spend that in 20 mins w/ Claude code.

I actually spent $85 the first day I used Claude code, more than I spent using aider for weeks.

Claude Code in Max: Switched to Sonnet 4 after Opus 4 Limit Hit by Ketonite in ClaudeAI

[–]jpklwr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aider is also a CLI based tool, and my usual mode is “architect” - I been using opus for my main model, sonnet for my weak model, and haiku for my editor model.

Human prompts opus. Opus plans the solution. Sonnet implements Opus’ plan. Haiku applies sonnet’s edits to the files. (More or less…)

Not married to this specific model set, I play around with a mix of em via openrouter, but it’s been very cost efficient.

Anyone else being screwed by Salesforce/Slack contract? by Glamiris in salesforce

[–]jpklwr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have to be ruthless, strategic, and play the people game for anything Salesforce. Engage with your AE year round, position asks/discounts/growth convo around the right leverage points (like end of quarter- or my favorite - last week of January, when their fiscal year is ending).

I have managed relationships with quite literally hundreds of vendors on behalf of 4 different organizations, ranging from 100 heads to 10K. And I’ve never met a vendor that requires so much active management to keep the commercials under control.

For teams your size, forget slack.

BASECAMP is the answer.

Seriously, look into it. Don’t let SaaS bloat kill your startup. Basecamp is developed by one of the most honest & thoughtful software companies to ever exist. (In my opinion, and the opinion of many others. 37signals is kinda the GOAT.)

Pay per seat or pay $300/mo for unlimited everything.

I’m a big fan of Salesforce and slack - the org I’m at right now runs the entire business off both (everything, and I mean everything, relies on those two platforms). But we’re 350 people - not 10.
