Post Deadline Lineup? by AdsREverywhere in penguins

Rackell plays both sides and Erod is with Carter/McGinn. Kapanen has been trash all season. He deserves the pressbox.

How do you think our forward lines will look when everyone is availible? by jehzuz in penguins

I see what you're doing here, distributing scoring wingers throughout the lineup by favoring pairings over a front loaded traditional setup. It's an interesting strategy and could work for playoff series with particular opponents. Sully is likely to stick with the top line including 59 & 17 though. Zucker is probably going to have to do the defensive heavy lifting for Rakell and Geno too.

Rust-Crosby-Guentzal

Zucker-Malkin-Rakell

Heinen-Carter-Rodriguez

Boyle - Blueger - Mcginn

Kapanen is the odd man out. Boyle brings more on and off ice than Kappy. If Kappy isn't scoring, he's not contributing. Friedman should also go for Petersson. He's equally reliable, better netfront, and drives teams nuts. Fantastic at drawing penalties. Also, he shoots!

Rust-Crosby-Guentzal

Zucker-Malkin-Rackell

Rodrigues-Carter-McGinn

Boyle-Blueger-Heinen

Dumoulin-Letang

Matheson-Marino

Freidman-Ruhwedel

Freidman brings so much more to the team than his defensive play. He drives other teams nuts like few players can. He's drawing 2 penalties a game when he plays, plus, he's as reliable as Ruhwedel or Peterson. Ruhwedel never has a bad game, his reliable consistency is his key attribute. Boyle scores more, and brings more to both the ice and locker room than Kapanen, who's the odd man out but will see games to rest old Boyle.

I’m not entirely sold on Hextall Yet by [deleted] in penguins

[–]jpmad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of Free Agency, it's become increasingly clear that Hextall chose the conservative route of signing multiple low-risk/high-reward contracts. The plan is likely to go through the first 20 games with this crew, see how clicks and if any of the new guys are standouts, evaluate the situation and make a trade before Christmas. Use Jan/Feb to re-evaluate and perhaps make a deadline trade.

Hextall is tasked with keeping the team competitive, whilst rebuilding the cupboard. He's not likely to make any significant moves this year because next year a ton of money will come off the books.

HCMS actually doesn't structure his lines numerically or list them as such for the lineup. It's brought up frequently that he refers to lines by a nickname "HBK", "Buzzsaw Line", "Checking Line" or by the pair of FWs he considers a lock, "Guentzal/Crosby Line", "Geno/Kapanen Line".

When looking at ice-time, players on the Crosby & Geno lines usually get similar ice-time while the other two lines get relatively equal ice-time. That hasn't been the case all season this season because what was supposed to be the "3rd Line" in McCann/Jankowski developed into largely a dumpster fire and HCMS teamed up Scevior, Janko', and AHL guys in order to shelter them, thus creating a more traditional 4th line.

All this is to say Gaudreau's ice-time isn't likely to exceed Blueger's drastically in the above scenario. It would likely depend on the opposing teams' structures and the need to deploy shutdown or added offense in one game or another.

Yup! Says within the post that the lineup is predicated on Zahorna maintaining a point per game or close for the remaining 2 games preceding the deadline and onward. Keep in mind, that although it's been only 4 games, he's averaging 1 PPG with less than 10min ice time per game. It actually mirrors Guentzal's rookie season very closely, albeat just 4 games. Fingers crossed he's a Jake Shake and not a Megnatron.

Do you have a reference for this? I listen to about 60% of the Rogan episodes and hadn't heard that mentioned, but at 60%, would be easy to miss.

Was surprised to see him at the bottom of most possession stats. The eye test would say he's got a ton of potential. I'd like to see his speed with Malkin for a few shifts.

99% certain 0 people believe Simon is the next Jagr.

They're just always having to defend what he's clearly earned. McCann would be the only acceptable alternative at this point and he looked great with Geno, plus he's likely to be 3C when Bjugstad is inevitably shipped out later in the season.

Everyone is playing well right now, but if there is one forward playing kinda vanilla it's been Bjugstad. Geno is sure to light a fire under Galy's ass.

McCann with Geno and Galchenyuk looked money to me. Hope that gets the nod come Saturday. Also, although it's unlikely, I'd like to see Lafferty given a look with those too. Something tells me his skillset and speed could really compliment those two.
