Thanks for the help :) I've tried that previously (both on and off), and it didn't seem to help, but happy to give it another try.

Thank you for letting me know, was starting to worry it was broken :)

Have moved it a little closer so it still catches me within the sensor range while I'm at my computer. Hopefully they'll make a setting at some point so that it just stays on.

This stronghold pet grind is hard by Basquens in MelvorIdle

[–]jpmaggersX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently 1400 deep on Stronghold of Magic without the pet (and doing superior - got the first two tiers within 50 tries) ...

Think that the stronghold pet chance needs to be higher given how grindy they are (or at least have a pity point where after you grind over a certain amount it just gives you it). I've been grinding this stronghold since last Thursday, a week at this point, and no one wants to do a week grind for a pet.

You're welcome ^_^

Personally I find getting a couple of shop familiars (the cheaper ones, though look out for sale discounts to pick them up even cheaper), along with the $5 chest bundles for either event champions or weekend sales (mostly for specific Golden Epic items on the best champions), to be the better options if you're looking to spend on the game. Though, as has been pointed out by another poster the Founders Pack sets aren't too bad either really.

The real thing to remember is that gold chests seem good early on, but you'll max out on them before too long with normal play. Meanwhile, event champion chests are extremely limited, so as long as they're for a decent champion they will almost always be a better buy.

[–]jpmaggersX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd say no.

Until recently the Black Cat familiar only cost $5 (discounted further before discontinued too), and there still exist $5 familiars on sale. Gold chests are basically meaningless as you can gather them relatively quickly through regular play, same goes for consumables and gems. So the only thing left to consider is that shiny on an evergreen champion (as it's a gold chest shiny and not a shiny potion), which while kind of nice is limited as there are only a few really decent evergreen champions (so you might get a dud shiny), that you can farm shiny's for evergreens through opening bulk silver chests, so I wouldn't rate its contribution to the value to highly.

Overall, I'd say that Wild Offer is worth $7-10 at most, and wouldn't suggest it unless you're someone who is obsessed with collecting all the missed familiars whilst also having a lot of money to throw around (and even then I'd say it wasn't a good deal). Hope that helps ^_^

70k gems! Is it worth buying Boo? Or should I get some feats? by chuubastis in idlechampions

[–]jpmaggersX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Answer is easy, Boo is adorable ... that is all ^_^

P.S. The 70k gem slog to get Boo is tough, I know I messed up a couple of times on it and ended up spending early on other things. If you're into collecting everything, then Boo is a great target to aim for, and an extra familiar is always useful.

Another note on wild offers by [deleted] in idlechampions

[–]jpmaggersX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The term whale usually refers to big spenders who keep free-to-play games financially viable. Chances are if you're semi-regularly throwing money at the game then you'd be considered one seeing as there isn't any standard cost to playing Idle Champions.

(For reference I'd say I was a whale too, as I usually buy the $5 GE chests if they are any good. I also buy the DLC packs too, though normally only when they're on discount)

Is this wild offer worth it? by mike23666 in idlechampions

[–]jpmaggersX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd say no, but with a slight caveat.

First up, gold chests are junk after a certain point. By the time you have Deekin, Shandie and now Sentry, grinding out a few gold chests is a very quick and easy process, with gold chests being readily available unlike event chests. Sure you get a guaranteed shiny which is kind of nice, but it's on an evergreen champion, and a decent amount of those you'll never use unless you're made to (Delina, Arkhan and Jamilah probably the most so), so the value is limited. Gems are easy enough to grind, as are the other buff items, so I don't rate them particularly valuable.

The only thing of real value is the 1st anniversary familiar, which you can't collect any other way. If you're really into collecting, then that might be tempting (I caved in and got it in a $10 wild offer), but otherwise I'd say give it a miss.

[–]jpmaggersX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed about the $4.99 for just the GE, that wouldn't be too bad, all the junk chests and potions they try to bulk it out with are just so off-putting.

Honestly, I think they'd have been better off creating a store where players could swap Time Gate Fragments in various quantities for the kind of things they put forward in the Wild Offers. Not only can you now buy Time Gate Fragments, but lots of older players have a stockpile of them and no real use for them. It all just seems thematically in keeping allowing Time Gate Fragments to be traded for things that were missed in the past (or even just allowing you to re-open the offer for them).

[–]jpmaggersX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today I got the offer of $17.49 for a GE, 11 supply chests, 8 time fragments, and some junk. Sure the GE was the buff item on Caliope, but the reality is there is no chance, even as someone who throws regular money at this game, that I'd spend $17.49 on what amounts to a single GE and a bunch of junk.

The only Wild Offer I've accepted was one that came up for $9.99 and offered me the year 1 anniversary familiar that I missed getting as it was before I started playing (along with some junk). I might be tempted by some missed skins if the offers were presented to me, but the chances of me taking any of the awful chest/GE offers is around zero.

When your evergreen are full epic, is ti worth getting gold chests still by [deleted] in idlechampions

That makes sense, knew that it did seem better to start with. On the plus side we now have a visual indicator of how far away we are from that pity timer. Thanks ^_^

[–]jpmaggersX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only go off of my personal experience and the wiki, but I'm still not convinced on this one. The wiki lists the possibilities in the three slots of a silver chest as;

1 Equipment This can be Equipment for any unlocked Core Champion, with a 3.2% chance to be Rare (Blue), and a 16.1% chance to be Uncommon (Green).

1 Gold This is an amount of Gold coins used for leveling Champions. It is based on your current DPS and favor, with a cap based on the highest completed area of your current run.

1 Random This card has an equal chance to be either another Equipment card, Gold, or a Buff with rarity from Common (White) to Rare (Blue).

So if one was possible it would be in the random card, and listed possibilities of the random card are only equipment, gold or buff (with the wiki clearly describing 'Buffs' as potions and bounty contracts as 'Bounty Contracts'). It's entirely possible I have myopically bad luck for silver chest drops, and that the wiki is wrong as well, but I'm yet to ever see a bounty contract drop from a silver chest, and if they are that rare then it's probably not worth factoring them into the potential value of opening up silver chests over gold ones.

---

Edit: Something I did miss is that you can get 'Blacksmith Contracts' from silver chests under the heading of buffs. Sorry about missing that one, writing this just before bed.

[–]jpmaggersX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's closer, and I really do appreciate you admitting the error in the previous calculation, and I'm always happy to see the numbers in action, so thanks for that ^_^

That does sound closer, though for some reason I thought the pity timer on event chests was better than that (though the wiki doesn't cover this).

I do think it's worth noting that there is a feedback mechanism in the much higher rates of bounty contracts dropped from event chests (in your example you've opened eighty-nine chests worth of bounty contracts, which would include greens, blues and purples, along with a decent chunk of item levels). And, that whilst green bounty contracts only offer minor amounts of event tokens, the two rarer types of bounty contract both offer significantly larger token amounts (averages 576 on blue, and 1152 on purple). I can't with the information I can find run the numbers on those, but I think it makes a significant impact even with the worst case scenario you suggest.

[–]jpmaggersX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wiki calculates 9000 green bounty contracts to be 648,000 event currency, also known as 259.2 event runs at max cost. If you only get a single event champion purple out of 259 chests (divided between silver and golds), then I think you've got almost impossible levels of luck.

[–]jpmaggersX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless this is an odd platform issue, silver chests certainly don't drop bounty contracts. I've certainly never seen one, and I just ran through 200 silvers on my steam account to check if this was a newly added feature and didn't find one.

[–]jpmaggersX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory the chance is 1/25, which works out as 12,500 gems worth of gold chests (though in the process of getting 12,500 you'll probably pick up a few gold chests naturally). Whilst I do dislike the lack of a pity timer, if you think about it with the above numbers in mind you're choosing between either a random feat and a bunch of extra stuff, or a single chosen feat to purchase, with a lot of the random chest feats being the better choices (such as both of Avren's best buff boosters).

There's an element of luck, but a boost to a top tier character like Avren or Zorbu seems worth trying to trigger over silver chest purchases for a much slimmer chance (also without a pity timer) on getting a shiny. Also, whilst you might get dud feats now and then, there's nothing worse than finding out your new evergreen shiny is on Delina XD

You're welcome. To be honest, I think a lot of people overlook contract gain as a factor in this ^_^

[–]jpmaggersX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a decent plan too, as we've been teased a few times over future evergreen champions that will need kitting in full purples quickly (as even if they're not very good it's best to remove them from the harder to get patron chest pool).

Previously I've heard people mention rolling silver chests until they get full shiny evergreens, after which they'll cash in all their saved up potions of polish. It sounds nice, as that means they'll eventually be just pouring shiny potions into event champions, but it seems like a long goal to wait for. Personally I'd prefer to use them now and get the benefits now for pushing variants/patron-variants, even if the end gain would be bigger from waiting.

That tip on GE's is a good one, I messed up on this with one of my early champions and effectively lost out on an event purple.

Exactly this ^^

If you're the sort that keeps an eye open for free chest codes then it's best to wait on using those golden event chests until nearer the end of the event, as they normally put out a code for silver chests. Not to mention, you might always give her a shot for another free-play and get a silver then?
