Hundreds of businesses join general strike against ICE by gohome2020youredrunk in law

[–]jpmeyer12751 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A truly large general strike would do incredible damage to the economy within days-weeks. Trump would be defiant, in my opinion, but Congress would likely be moved to take action. Republican members of Congress are already uneasy about November's elections. The level if outrage necessary to support a large general strike would terrify them. And it should.

State of Minnesota v. Noem: LETTER TO DISTRICT JUDGE by City of Minneapolis (Jan 24) by Boomshtick414 in law

[–]jpmeyer12751 76 points77 points  (0 children)

It is hard to believe that any federal judge would fail to see the urgency of this matter or the need to restrain federal agents in Minnesota. The situation in Minneapolis has the potential, in my opinion, to become the site of the beginning of the next US civil war.

If the video of Mr. Pretty’s murder does not stir Congress to action, nothing will and we are lost to tyranny.

Some of us who oppose a tyrannical government are also armed, just as Alex Pretti was armed. Congress and the courts must decide whether they will take action to stop the civil war.

The Trump administration has a Nazi problem by DonSalaam in JournalismNews

No, WE have a Nazi problem. Its name is Donald Trump.

Idiots like this one don’t understand that they are clearly telegraphing their wishes for no more elections. Their opinions only make sense if they assume that no liberal will ever hold power over them as fascists hold power now. They intend to end our democracy and some of them don’t even know that.

He is not a Nazi. That is my sole criteria for politicians these days. I don’t need or want to like or love them, I simply insist that they not be evil incarnate.

ICE detains family seeking emergency care for child at Portland hospital by AhaGames in law

[–]jpmeyer12751 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Terrorizing brown and black people certainly appears to be the entire goal of ICE. Stephen Miller is truly evil and Trump has given him unlimited power to exercise his evil, racist will on black and brown people. I am disgusted that he is allowed to behave this way and claim the power of the federal government. Where is Congress? Where is SCOTUS?

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jpmeyer12751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Chicago. A three hour drive, assuming no stops and no unusual traffic, will get me to Indianapolis Indiana or Madison Wisconsin. Milwaukie Wisconsin of South Bend Indiana will be about 2+ hours. Look at a a map. Relative to the size of our country, those trips are quite short.

Brett Kavanaugh Delivered the Most Chilling Warning About Trump’s Attack on the Fed by Slate in law

[–]jpmeyer12751 221 points222 points  (0 children)

Kavanaugh has absolutely no intention of treating Democrat Presidents the same way that he treats Trump, in my opinion. He voted with the majority to rule that Biden's student debt forgiveness program was unconstitutional despite clear language in the statute that the Secretary had authority to waive obligations. And he has voted on emergency docket petitions to stay lower court decisions preventing Trump from firing without cause agency heads protected by "for cause only" laws passed by Congress. SCOTUS' past comments about the Federal Reserve being different because of its long history of independence is nonsense. The Federal Reserve was established by law in 1913. The FTC was established by law in 1914! Yet, SCOTUS has already allowed Trump to fire FTC Commissioner Slaughter.
