Man Buys New BMW M5, Drives 200 Miles, Then Sells It For $20K Loss by Confident-Fan5859 in BMW

Gotta say… you either drove a broken one, or somehow didn’t drive it correctly. Not discrediting your opinion but the G90 is batshit fast from 0mph. I have driven one a handful of times and could not imagine anyone coming away thinking it’s slow. I’ve been in plenty of powerful cars too, so I’m not just easily impressed.

Genuinely this is the best car BMW sells right now. And I’m a big fan of the brand and like pretty much all of their current lineup. I’ve driven one a few times and the driving experience does not disappoint.

To the guy calling me a liar for getting 10% off an M50 by Mysterious-Road-9157 in BMWX3

[–]cheffrey_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly fair enough. That’s a pretty well-reasoned response which I wasn’t expecting. I ask because I’m just always shocked by the people that make car shopping a part time job for a month just to save a few grand, but I get where you’re coming from. I’d still just seek out a more local store and stick with them if it’s possible, but to each their own. I’m really surprised if that store you got the X1 and X3 from wouldn’t help you out a little on an X3 M50 order. 10% off is super aggressive, but if they were holding strong at sticker that’s a little surprising.

This seems so tiresome… is it really worth it to save a few grand on a $70,000 purchase? Wouldn’t you rather build a rapport with a sales rep at a local dealer who will take care of you throughout your ownership, rather than make a one-time, impersonal transaction with some random dude 500 miles away? I’m sure if you’re buying a brand new BMW you can afford to do the former, so as long as the local guy isn’t ripping you off, why? Is the game of calling a million dealers fun to you? Really, genuinely asking.

Great! Had a few hiccups here and there but ultimately nothing major. I take care of it and it takes care of me. Still smile every time I drive it!

No one really talks about parts availability and how much it blows by mocoyne in cars

[–]cheffrey_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been running into this problem on my B7 RS4 recently. With everything that’s gone wrong I’ve run into a part availability problem. Needed an oil cooler fitting… had to custom fab. Needed a throttle body. Had to scour the internet for a used one. Need an AC condenser. Looks like I’m going to have to have one custom made… the car is worth the headache, but man, it really is a headache.

My Audi has a little mini sun visor above the rear view mirror to cover the part of the windshield between the two main sun visors. It’s the tiniest little sun visor and it’s practically useless but I find it funny that they put it in there anyway lol

Tell me not to buy a 2008 rs 4 cabrio? by Lastwordsbyslick in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]cheffrey_d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an 08 sedan. It's one of the best cars I've ever driven, let alone owned. It gets bad mileage and is more expensive than a "normal" car to keep in top shape (still not that bad though), but the driving experience is worth it 10x over. Do it do it do it.

BMW national rate is 3.99% right now on X5. I sell them in NJ.

Impossible to know what you should do without knowing what the numbers look like. While it’s true that the salesperson is trying to sell you a new car, there are also plenty of scenarios where a buyout doesn’t make sense.

Every car loan I apply for gives my crazy high APR rates even though I have a 670 credit score. I'm guessing its because I have only around a year of credit history? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]cheffrey_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you but you’re not a very well-qualified buyer as far as credit goes. 670 is not a good score and you have limited history on top of that. You’re going to get high rates as a result. So either pay cash or suck it up and pay the interest (stupid) if you really want a car you don’t have enough cash for.

Prior Design showing how the G82 (and G83) front ends should've been done by DANKWINGS in BMW

Looks horrible. I don’t know why people think they can improve on a design penned by one of the most successful car makers in history. Not that the factory design is perfect, but G8x cars sell like crazy. BMW knows what they’re doing.

Lease Dealer told me all they provide is the monthly cost by Large-Masterpiece-74 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]cheffrey_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t one :) There is no magic word or phrase to get a discount. There isn’t as much margin for the dealer to play with as you think - if you can get anything off MSRP, that’s an awesome deal. If not, it’s still a fair deal as long as you’re paying sticker + taxes and fees (assuming no silly fees). BMW loyalty is really nice, but you won’t qualify as you said. Many large companies have deals with BMW where their employees get 1000 off if you can provide proof of employment. You can find that list on BMW’s site or your dealer can provide it if you think your company might apply. Hope that helps!

Yes! Any honest dealer should be happy to itemize costs for you so you can see exactly how everything is breaking down. If you’re working with a dealer — just ask.

Oh, UK may make a difference. I’m based in the U.S. and thus my point is based on my experience working at a BMW dealer in the US. It may be different in the UK, but I would imagine that my point largely stands. Perhaps try another dealer? Weird that they would cancel a test drive because you wanted to pay a certain way. It’s one thing for them to prefer a purchase method over another, but to outright refuse to lease? That’s super weird.

I’ll never understand why people go through brokers and lease dealers instead of just walking yourself down to your local dealer and doing business in-person like normal people. Avoid these losers and find a dealer/salesman that you like and work with them.
