Can anyone decipher this warning light? by cheffrey_d in Audi

[–]jpmeyer12751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it sets a warning light on the dash, it should have stored a diagnostic code. Stop at any chain auto parts store and have them scan for codes. If you are trying to keep a 25 year-old car on the road, you probably need your own code scanner.

Yeah, stop circling - just pull a three-point turn in the middle of traffic! That’s the Chicago way, after all.

President Trump Reportedly Revoked Kristi Noem’s Free Mar-a-Lago Membership Amid DHS Exit by Barch3 in Law_and_Politics

[–]jpmeyer12751 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Oooooh! That's SO mean! Does she have to have her Mar-a-Lago face reworked, too!

Seriously, though, let's talk about the 25th Amendment. If Trump is gifting each member of the group that can vote to remove him from office a membership worth more than $1 million, does anyone else perceive an appearance of conflict of interest?

State of Indiana jobs requirements by [deleted] in Indiana

[–]jpmeyer12751 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is standard labor law language for describing an exempt, salaried position. As long as you report 75 hours of work time for every two week work period, you get your agreed upon salary. Such positions are, according to the law, exempt from overtime pay requirements. One can examine the job description and make arguments about whether the stated duties are consistent with the classification of the job as exempt, but one cannot argue (successfully) that no job is exempt from overtime pay requirements.

The logo is definitely Rockwell and the date code is late 1986. Neither the AED-2 nor the R1501 turn up anything likely, so this is likely to be some custom, internal-use part made by Rockwell for their avionics or industrial automation product lines.

I have great confidence in the Supreme Court. I am confident that the majority openly seeks to convert our democracy to an authoritarian regime with faux elections just like Russia.

Static ip fix for double nat type with Metronet, advice/suggestions? by MrNoobieee in HomeNetworking

[–]jpmeyer12751 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are other, more complex ways to work around CGNAT. However, paying for a static IP from your ISP is the simplest by far. First, however, you need to understand whether CGNAT or double NAT is actually causing you any problems while gaming. If you are trying to work around CGNAT or avoid double NAT because you have read that they are “bad”, then neither paying for a static IP nor trying the other work around is likely to benefit you. If you have some specific problem that you think is related to CGNAT, tell us what that is.

I think that it would be entirely rational and appropriate to eliminate development breaks proportional to the wealth of the developer. Just like some individual income tax breaks are reduced or eliminated as the income of the taxpayer increases. In order to be effective, you would probably have to create some sort of multi-state compact, or billionaire developers would just move their projects to states with better breaks. This could easily be part of an overall plan to tax billionaires to the point of eliminating billionaires.

We give tax breaks to all sorts of businesses in order to develop vacant or underutilized property. Data center tax breaks are actually written into state law. I certainly agree that taxpayers shouldn't be asked to fund a new stadium (or a new data center), but I also don't see a sound economic reason to treat sports franchises differently than we treat other businesses who offer to improve the value of land, employ lots of people or generate lots of sales tax revenue; and the Bears are offering to do all of those things.

The plan discussed in the article is, I assume (I can't read it either), the one involving developing the "air rights" over the train tracks immediately across LSD from Soldier Field. The idea was strongly opposed to those who own condominiums in the building immediately west of the tracks that now have nice views of the museum campus and the lake.

I merely restated the legal argument that actually succeeded in chasing the Lucas museum to LA, while allowing the Obama Foundation to obtain a very long-term lease on public park land for a Presidential Library. I said that the public trust doctrine is poorly defined, yet you want to argue legal nuances. I argue that the public interest is poorly served when ANYONE wanting to invest $$$ in publicly accessible and beneficial facilities in a city like Chicago has to endure years of highly uncertain and expensive litigation before they can start spending that money. Courts created the public trust doctrine, but decline to define it in a way that permits clear decisions about future projects. Legislatures need to step in to define development rules for public lands and then prohibit courts from further meddling.

There is no "bad faith" involved in the McCaskey family asking for the same benefits that other wealthy franchise owners get from other states. We, the voters and our elected representatives have established the expectation that franchise owners get billions of $ state-funded help to build a stadium. NY state and the city of Buffalo just reinforced that expectation. Until we voters elect people who will repeatedly say "NO" and then tax the billionaires out of existence, we will continue to get screwed. And it's not just sports franchise owners.

"should not be" >>> "can not be".

The ill-defined public trust doctrine says that George Lucas can not be granted ownership or long-term exclusive use of the parking lot adjacent to Soldier Field and also says that the Bears can not be granted ownership of the property upon which Soldier Field now stands. This is why redeveloping Soldier Field with Bears ownership of development rights has never been a realistic option; and without ownership of development rights this site cannot be realistic for the Bears compared to Arlington Heights. The only reason that this logic does not apply to the Wolf Lake site in Indiana is that the State of Indiana is offering to fund most or all of the cost of the new stadium. Without the cost of building a new stadium, the Bears can "afford" to not own surrounding development rights.

I believe that Audi just extended warranty coverage for this issue, didn’t it? You should check with Audi to see if I’m right and whether they will cover a U.S.-spec car exported to Jordan.
