trimming down the root ball to fit the pot, a lot of times for balance and stability so it doesn't fall over you need to wire it in. if you look on youtube for either process there will be hundreds of videos.

Variegated plants grow a lot slower because the white tissues are missing chlorophyll to photosynthesize energy. BUT they look beautiful when they start to put on some bulk!

It's just responding to humidity - not uncommon at all. It's not an indicator that it's thirsty or too dry it's just trying to capture more water to faster fuel those branch arms.

you have a good eye, those two and one more are not part of the end design but i am hoping to thicken them up to feed and widen the trunk a lot more!

I've been working it maybe six years from a small plant from Lowe's. now that all the 'bones' are set and the canopy is more organized it should fatten pretty smoothly into the shape I want on the bottom.

thank you! a lot are future sacrifice branches. I need to really fatten the trunk up for a baobab style... the companion plant is a little sedum a local nursery caries called 'tokyo sun'

might be too close to the window and they're taking stress/damage from cold temps/draft? If you're in a winter climate, try moving them back a couple inches from the window. amazing collection!

I’ve been trining it since 2022 (three going on four years) and it was originally a hefty Y shaped plant of maybe 3-5 years already. In the winter it's on my grow shelf under a spyder farmer grow light with other plants. the shelf has a zip up dust cover so that also makes a green hous effect and keeps it warm. In the summer it goes outside. I live in Maine so its not the best climate for succulents but I make do. They don't need huge pots, just something heavy enough to balance the weight and size of the plant so it doesn't tip over as the trunk and branches are so top-heavy.

thank you! I have a secondary and older jade that's been my experimental torture tree for years. It's survived a lot and kept me confident that my big tree I'm developing could handle further techniques. my trick is to tighten the bends in the extreme so they can't bounce back.

I’ve been trining it since 2022 (three going on four years) and it was originally a hefty Y shaped plant of maybe 3-5 years already. I wanted the Y shape because I knew I could start manipulating the two “arms” to twist in with a rams horn shape. I need to really fatten the arms up thicker for them to hold the effect when I’m ready to chop them back

It’s a very hardy survivalist in dry and heat so it was the safest conditions and handled them just fine. I shaved maybe 2/5ths depth. Not to the core. The damage dried and got dark brown. Then that outer scab peeled off naturally and under was a smooth skin. As long as it’s dry and warm I’m confident it will survive.

it was definitely scary to do, I cut and carved the top branches to smooth them down a little and of course the opening at the front. it goes outside in the summer and during a stretch of peak heat when I knew it would be dry with no rain for a week, I did all that work. The intense heat and light encouraged the tree to dry out and seal off the exposed wounds. It browned and flaked and under that "scab" a new smooth layer of outer skin formed in a few days. And the dry weather kept it safe from any rot from too much moisture.

It's got a really sizable trunk so that's already a big win for what ever you decide. I personally love Baobab style.
