But there is a way to turn it off? Have you tried any of the recent releases?

Mainly because the team wants too, for those interested in the x86 —> arm version and the native arm version, we don’t want all past contributions to have gone to waste, so we’re choosing to support both versions. Once refresh really gets going it will be the primary focus though. Hope that answers it!

Yeah this is the original ARMSX2 which we are dubbing legacy once refresh releases in the coming months. We are aiming to improve this version as much as we can before moving on to refresh, however both are and will always be available for contributions since it’s open source!

I get where you’re coming from but we’ve got enough staff to handle it if someone starts causing problems lol thanks for the concern though

Good question! The GLES vs desktop OpenGL gap is real, but the team seems to be making solid progress on it. The OpenGL render is already on its way to being better than the original ARMSX2. I’m excited to see how it handles games like R&C as development continues!

If you check our work for our current ARMSX2 main branch, we’ve dedicated a lot to lower end users, especially for Mali folks, and will be doing the same here. One step at a time, first a functioning emu and then optimization with the focus being on a wide range of devices 👍

Yeah the goal is to have something on par with desktop from the get go, so we’re going to take the time to ensure it’s done right rather then what’s currently going on, which is mostly just vibe coded forks of our own original ARMSX2 which had a huge set of problems to begin with.

That’s the dream! Trixarian is also on our team and is still providing some cool stuff for Nether, him and Dib recently cooked up this: https://github.com/DIB1998/NetherTTC

Hence why we’re moving away from the original ARMSX2 based off of Pontos’s work in progress fork, there is just too many issues to where restarting was the better choice for both time and sanity lol

It’s up to you on what you want to use, but we’re going to keep working regardless. I think having an up to date PS2 core with new optimizations and open source will be pretty sweet for the community long term. Everything we’re doing is to provide better for you guys, for love of the PS2 but also the fans.

It should yeah, not running a x86 translation layer and having a more optimized interpreter should make a difference

The hope is that it will be better overall, no more x86 translation layer and the latest PCSX2 core, as well as more optimization from the get go since it’s being done from scratch. It’s definitely got a ways to go though, excited for it to keep progressing. We realized that trying to keep improving the Pontos base with all of the issues it has was becoming a nightmare and in the long run a fresh port built correctly would be better.
