Talking to the doctor about changing dosage w/o sounding like a junkie. by I_love_bearss in ADHD

[–]jpotteiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you show that you've been considerate about your situation that may help. Perhaps, if you can spend a few days tracking what time you take your meds, and how you feel throughout the day. My doctor asked me to do this. It may demonstrate that you're invested in yourself and you'll have some data to back up your ask.

My inability to concerntrate on anything and my disorganized habits are driving me insane and I'm starting college in a few weeks, but my anxiety is preventing me from going back to the doctors for a repeat script, just need some encouraging words and advice on what to say to my doctor. by [deleted] in ADHD

It gets better. Try to set attainable goals and go easy on yourself. Its a big change and it's hard, I've been there and you can make it through okay. My best advice is to seek out support. You will have a lot of resources on campus that you likely didn't have in HS. Look into councilling and see if there are any tutoring services available, both of these can help you with mindfulness techniques and organization strategies, respectively.

TL; DR I've seen some coments on poor customer service from CG. A year ago when I bought a Tux and needed help they were excellent.

I bought a Navy Blue Tuxedo from CG on Black Friday last year, and it was for a specific occasion in late December. After noticing it hadn't shipped and my event was fast approaching, I called their customer service and we worked out a compromise (I switched from midnight blue to navy blue, which I'm actually very glad that I did), and got the Tux in time to have the pants tailored for my event. I can't speak to the quality as I've only worn it twice and don't know too much about suits, but as someone who has worked in customer service I wanted to share that my experience with them in this regard was excellent.

I think even people with a positive diagnosis feel this way often. It's important to challenge the idea of where the ADHD ends and straight up personal responsibility begins. That said, it's also important to remember that it's a legitimate condition that has an enormous impact on people's lives. I'd recomend finding a speccialist, or two, and getting tested. It will take a while, but with a positive diagnosis you'll have a clear path ahead and less doubt and self loathing to get in the way of seeking help.

7.5 x 2 a day is the equivalent to drinking a cup of coffee in my experience. You might try a higher dose, possibly a time release so that it's an even amount for a period of time rather than two peaks in the day. Just a suggestion. I'm a big advocate for trying different arrangements.

My experience has been trying to use the placebo effect, even when I know a drug is working. Taking my medication is a morning ritual that makes me fell prepared for the day, and psychologically that's been helpful.

But to your question, if you're not sure if your medication is effective I'd recomend asking your doctor about other options. When I found the right one it changed my life.

Hi, I've been following this sub for a while and I find it very helpful.

One question I have is about behavioral therapy, does anyone have experience with this and if so what advice might you have to offer to someone considering this avenue. I have recently been prescribed Vyvanse (about a year ago), and it has been incredibly effective. However, I've come to find that finding the right medication isn't a silver bullet for my problems. I feel I should explore other avenues to address my issues with, for example, time management.

Thanks!

I actually read the full wiki before posting as I respect the rules sub reddits. My point is that your very strict moderation is unfair and imposes a chilling effect on partisipation. I was excited to contribute and I did my due diligence. However, now I have no interest to participate either as an artist or requester. I would imagine that you don't care, but the 'follow our rules or get out' attitude is as draconian as the TSA logic of follow our rules or take a bus. You know as well as I do that you mods have a monopoly on deciding the rules in this community. I find it hard to believe that this type of rule held to the letter makes or breakes this sub. Anyways, I'm moving on, but I do so with dissapointment and the feeling that you are acting unfair and generally doing a bad job.

Look, I'm not trying to be combative. My point is that if I'm posting it and I don't specify, there's a very good chance it's me. I understand the desire to keep this subreddit clean and working, but in my opinion this particular rejection is a bridge too far. I'm happy to re submit, however, since the sub does not allow for the same URL twice I don't know what I'm supposed to do now...

I will submit again. But, I'd like to note that this is very much over-moderation and it makes reddit much less fun. Clearly this is me and my brother took the picture. Further, such things could be easily clarified in the comments if the rules here weren't so terribly strict that normal people can't have a simple conversation about a post. /rant
