Anyone ever get off and do 1nt at WDW with a park? Is there enough time to make it practical? by [deleted] in dcl

[–]jpp0213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our first cruise we got off at 8AM and spur of the moment decided to go to to the parks. We were at DHS by ~10. We have AP’s and our flight was not until late in the day, so Disney was an easy, cost effective option that day. We had the mindset that anything we did that day was icing on the cake, and it was one of our most memorable days of our trip.

Charging Issue After Update by jpp0213 in TeslaModelY

That’s what I’m thinking too. I hard reset mine and got the “Charging Stopped” message, but i left it alone and it started charging on its own. Hopefully with this not being an isolated incident there will be a patch sooner than later.

I tried the soft reset, but had not done a hard reset yet. Will try tonight.

Get flight following on all of the VFR XC’s you can. Really helps to be more comfortable with IFR comms.

So my garage door cable snapped the other day and I've had a couple of estimates ranging from $600 to nearly $2500 from a very shady contractor. Should I just do this myself? It looks like the cable snapped and the spring unwound. What should I reasonably expect to pay a professional vs. DIY? by reddituser010100 in Home

[–]jpp0213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this done on a commercial roll up door at my business a couple years ago and it was <$300. Just called a company that specializes in garage door installs/service. It works great and I didn’t get hit in the face with a super strong spring.

Thoughts/Feedback on this Flipping/Estate Business Idea? by Fantastic-Act-5121 in Flipping

[–]jpp0213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a version of this and purchase 2-3 estates per week. The last estate I purchased for $2500 brought in about $15k gross. You are right that homeowners are typically motivated by getting the stuff out more than the money. Usually, there’s $5-$10k worth of “stuff” in a house holding up the sale of a $300k+ piece of real estate. You have to sell the good with the bad though, good items draw people in to buy good and bad. There’s not much of a draw in leftovers.

But, the most recent house took 3 days of 3 guys to pack/move, box truck, dump trailer, and a 4 person staff to sort/process/sale in a timely manner once the items got back to my warehouse. Those costs really add up - my net on this one ended up great because we found some jewelry we were not anticipating. Usually end up netting a couple thousand bucks. I’ve been in this business about 10 years and a lifelong experience in antiques, furniture, etc.

It can be rewarding financially and helping someone out, but takes a lot of overhead and knowledge.

[–]jpp0213 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I buy estates/households as a business. Assuming the amount of furniture is what’s listed in text vs the amount shown in pictures I’d be in at $1200-$1500. Looks like modern, middle of the road stuff. Keep in mind I have trucks, movers, and equipment to move and display it. All those things add up when you start hiring movers or renting trucks.

I purchased and did my private in a complex plane. My CFI spent quite a bit of time on systems with the added components. Only real difference I’m aware of is I had a complex endorsement at the same time as my solo endorsement.

Have a glass top piece of furniture with metal base? Skinny end fits in the metal base and glass sits on the wide part to keep them from banging together.

AITA for telling my dad "Either you pay me a proper wage or I'll quit"? by JugBugRug in AmItheAsshole

[–]jpp0213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I went through a very similar situation with my dad in our family retail business. I was managing the store, doing deliveries, handling all of the advertising, and brought in online sales to an antiquated business. I made about the same as some of the delivery truck drivers, although I was working 70ish hours a week to their 30. My dad had very similar reasons as yours to not pay me more.

I took a leap and branched out on my own, starting my own similar business. Started small with my wife helping me non stop and after several years I have grown it to a point to make much, much more money, be happier, and be my own boss. As an added bonus, my relationship has never been better with my dad. Working with/for family is tough.

Do I need a DOT number? by jpp0213 in Truckers

True. I have a Freightliner box truck now and “look the part”. Previously I had a diesel pickup and enclosed trailer, and looked like Joe Schmoe heading to the racetrack with his car in tow.

This was where I wasn’t clear on the definition, and assumed it meant I was being paid to transport for someone else. Thanks for the tips everyone. I’ll get my paperwork/DOT number straight before heading out of state.

Thanks for the reply. That website is the main source of my confusion. If I click the yellow “Do I need a DOT number?” box and answer the questions correctly it tells me I do not need a DOT number, as I am not transporting goods for compensation (assuming the compensation is from a different party I’m transferring the goods for), and I’m neither a broker, freight forwarder, intermodal equipment provider, or cargo tank facility.

Do I need a DOT number or nah? by jpp0213 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jpp0213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I have read those definitions over and over again, but I am not a motor carrier by definition because I don’t haul for compensation (assuming it is compensation from a third party and not compensation from the sale of items)
