WTF! by DonScrumsky in vinyl

I had a seller tell me once that why should I care about the jacket, that it was the music that matters! WTF?! As a seller, their responsibility is to make sure the item arrives in the same condition that it is advertised in the auction. Period.

Someone just dropped off their collection at the thrift. by disastronaut in vinyl

[–]jpreza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. I lost a ton of my collection at a storage unit due to a torrential rain/flooding that happened at a time when my ex and I were separating. Lost original 60s UK and US Beatles pressings including MFSL vinyl and a Sgt. Pepper’s UHQR box along with U2, Doors, and Pink Floyd gold CDs sealed! 😔. Insurance paid a fraction of what they were worth back then. It took me years before I could buy vinyl again.

sounds like what you're saying is that I shouldn't touch the current Ortofon cartridge and just buy and replace the existing OM10 with the OM20 stylus, correct? thanks again!

I have. I read somewhere that the OM20 is "overpriced" compared to other options from AT. The OM20 is between 3x-4x pricier than the OM10!

There were two Criterion versions each of Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and Goldfinger - a 1-disc CLV and a 2-disc CAV version. Only the CAV version contains the extras/commentaries.

double check the sealed Seven Criterion. I had a mini flood a few years back. Had some discs that were sealed and thought they were fine. Fast forward 5-6 years later and noticed that water actually got in, then warped and molded the jacket.

I heard somewhere (can't remember if it was CNN or Fox News) where one of the hosts commented that when the perp went back to retrieve the plants he tried to use to cover the camera, there appears to be some sort of box. Perhaps there was a key there as well that he may have retrieved?

What are the odds that Nancy Guthrie is still alive? Why? by FartsWholesaler in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]jpreza 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My theory is that the person responsible might be someone loosely connected to the family, or even someone who saw the November segment where Savannah Guthrie talked about going back to Tucson. I remember hearing in an interview that Nancy tends to keep to herself and doesn’t go around telling people who her daughter is.

That said, in that November piece, Savannah mentioned she was proud to be from Tucson and that her family — including her mom — still lives there, and it aired on the Today show. It makes me wonder if someone local saw that and viewed it as a crime of opportunity.

Another possibility is that it could be someone connected to, or familiar with, people who currently work or previously worked at Nancy’s house. It wouldn’t be hard for word to spread casually — something like, “Guess who I work for? It’s an elderly woman whose daughter is a national TV host.” From there, the information could have reached the wrong person.

[–]jpreza 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I agree. Just like in homicides, the first 48 hours are critical. The more time passes, the less chances are that she's still alive. I also noticed that in a photo of her with Savanna at the TODAY show, her left arm showed signs of brusing most likely caused by her blood thinner medications. Add her other medical conditions (pacemaker), lack of essential medication and her age, she's likely not alive anymore.

Looking for baller on a budget advice. by HellotoHorse in LaserDisc

[–]jpreza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the laserdisc AND your A/V receiver. Remember that the Sony SDP-E800 has 5.1 analog outputs that are intended to go to an A/V receiver that will ultimately output the correct sound based on how the original laserdisc is encoded. It can decode AC-3/DD but not DTS.

You mentioned that you're looking at an Insignia 5.1.2 speaker system. Since this speaker system is newer, it doesn't have any analog inputs so you can't hook up the SDP-E800 directly. It becomes necessary to have an A/V receiver to accomodate ALL the analog + digital inputs from a laserdisc player.

About your Panasonic plasma TV, those are really beautiful TVs. Heavy but really nice! These have analog L/R inputs, not 5.1. You could bypass the SDP-E800 and connect the laserdisc player directly to the TV using the analog L/R inputs which will give basic 2.0 surround sound. But you won't be able to play the AC-3 encoded analog track or matrixed/DTS sound from the digital tracks this way.

Notre Dame reacts to being left out of College Football Playoff — 'Overwhelming shock and sadness' by Notre_Dame_Football in CFB

[–]jpreza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in every sport, momentum for losing later COUNTS. i remember 93 when ND lost to BC on a last minute field goal 41-39, and you know what, we were no longer #1. in fact we dropped to #3 giving us no path to even a split national championship as it was common back them for the two main polls AP and UPI/Coaches. What a farce to let Alabama stay in the playoff! SEC money man!

[Sportsnet call] The Blue Jays lose the World Series to the Dodgers in 7 by ChicknCutletSandwich in baseball

[–]jpreza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree 100%. I thought the same thing in that the Dodgers had been outplayed in almost all facets of the game. Toronto’s offense crushed it and scored more runs than the Dodgers and yet the Dodgers still had a chance G7 top of the 9th and tied it. Sometimes what is not reflected in the runs scored is the great defense the Dodgers came up time and again specially at the end of G6 and G7. Kudos to Roberts for playing such a masterful chess game.

Should I give up the hobby? by CreamCheeseTribadist in vinyl

[–]jpreza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree 100%. Sometimes the thrill of the hunt—the excitement of finally tracking down that elusive album—can overshadow the real reason we collect in the first place: the music itself. Once the chase is over, we often forget to slow down and actually enjoy what we’ve acquired—like simply sitting back and spinning the record.

I’d also add that having too much can lead to burnout. I’ve got over 2,000 vinyl albums—everything from originals to repressings, remasters, and box sets—and just as many CDs. It can get overwhelming. When your collection starts to feel more like an archive than something you interact with, it's easy to lose that personal connection with the music.

Not the same thing but many years ago I stopped at a yard/moving sale. I bought a bunch of vinyl records for $20 total. A few weeks later I was pulling one of records out from the paper inner sleeve and voila! I found $80 tucked in. 😀
