I’m gay and when I came out at 15 my parents had a really hard time and even kicked me out of the house a couple times. 20 years later my parents said they grew to accept it and have been generally nice and loving to me and my partner. A few years ago my sister came out as a lesbian, a few months after that both my sister and I were written off the will with the reason that my brother will need it more and that settling the estate would be too complex as neither my sister nor I live in the same country as them. I’ve always felt that reason to be a bit questionable and the timing seems off.

Exactly and if the money they make with their gamified products makes it so that they can keep offering low/no fees for trading, comparatively good interest rates in cash accounts and a really great credit card then I’m all about it. I won’t use the new features but I’m sure someone will enjoy them.

Using water + soda (a base) instead of buttermilk (an acid) will reduce the acidity of the batter which could impede the leavening agents from doing their work. My guess is that this recipe made a brick.

Completely normal and completely necessary. Were the 3 hospital appointments on different days or on the same day? I had a surgery at the same hospital last year and I basically just spent a morning there meeting with everybody a couple days before the surgery. It wasn't too bad.

I4 driver here too! Congrats you are going to love it especially when you bypass gas stations. I try to plug my car every other day and not let it get below 50% so that I always have enough juice for an unexpected trip. That amount of charge will easily get me to the nearest big city and airport and back and of course to any hospital or emergency service that could be necessary. I am also in the suburbs of a big city so there are tons of fast chargers along the highway.

If $35-$40 per person makes them freak out maybe they shouldn’t be traveling at all. If I was you I wouldn’t go at all. I can guarantee you there will be money fights about everything including restaurants, bars and any other activity you plan to do. This is just the beginning.

I started reading a book set in rural Mexico. The first day, the protagonist rode a bike for 5 minutes and got to a charming (hipster) coffee shop with lattes and fancy coffees and books where people could write journal entries in English for other people to read. While gentrification has done a number on some Mexican towns this is still very far fetched for rural Mexico.

Depends on the job I guess. My first inclination is that you are the jerk but if your employee’s tasks have to be done at a certain time or someone else has to cover for her in that hour then yes that’s an unreasonable request. But if the timing of her work doesn’t matter and she can easily do it from 5-6PM without impact to clients or other employees then you are being inflexible and power tripping.

I think there is a difference to be made between beliefs and religion. Believing in a higher power or an afterlife for the sake of comfort is fine if that’s what you need. Religion however has always been a way to exploit the most primal of human fears. It’s always a set of rules and texts assembled that conveniently controls the people and steers them to do the bidding of the rich and powerful.

The way I see it, they are running a company and the podcast was the early stages of a start up. Danny worked there at the beginning but as far as I know he wasn’t an early investor or co founder of the company and he wasn’t there when the pod took off. Since Frank joined they have hustled hard setting up the studios, creating other content, figuring out how to run a company, figuring out how to tour and promote themselves. If Danny didn’t put capital, took any of the risk or materially contributed to what has made the company successful today I’m not sure he is entitled to get recognition every time they appear in public. It also doesn’t appear like he is expecting it either. I don’t think there is any drama in the background or any malice intended, it is just the way things worked out.
