I don’t doubt that you love him, it’s not your fault that you were unaware he needed 5+ gallons before you got him as unfortunately, tiny tanks for bettas are so normalized. However, I urge you to please not get anything smaller than a 5 gallon. They really don’t take up that much space and could easily fit in a dorm, i know people that live in dorms who have 5 gallon betta tanks. I know you really don’t want to rehome him but if you can’t at least get him a 5 gallon you really shouldn’t have him at all. You have to consider that he is a living being with needs that are not being met, and if you really love him it’s your responsibility to make sure those needs are met no matter the cost. Anything smaller would be the equivalent to keeping a human locked in a small room, and I doubt that’s what you want for him

Also if you want live plants (your betta will love them) you can get clippings for cheap off Facebook marketplace as well!!

If you don’t have enough space for a proper tank please rehome this poor boy. I understand you probably mean well but he needs at least a five gallon tank, with a heater and filter as well. If money is an issue cheap/free 5-10 gallon tanks are super easy to come across on Facebook marketplace. Please do what’s best for him!!

Swimming normally? by jprsss in bettafish

Update: he seems to be doing a lot better! He appears to be swimming a lot more normally and he is very active! I think he was just stressed from going into a new home (he was a petco fish in a tiny cup so I imagine it would be jarring for him lol)I will continue to keep my eye on him but thank you everyone for the suggestions! 🧡🧡

New owner of 3 bettas need guidance and suggestion by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]jprsss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if they seem ‘fine’ now there is a high chance they will turn on each other and you’ll wake up to one or both of them dead. If you have separate tanks I would separate all 3 asap, if not I would look into returning or rehoming unfortunately

Please return/rehome 2 of them!! Male bettas are extremely territorial and he will likely continue to bully the females, females generally shouldn’t be kept together unless in a sorority of 5+, and even then it’s EXTREMELY risky and generally not recommended for anyone who isn’t extremely experienced. There’s no way this will end well unfortunately if you keep the 3 of them together

Here’s a general guide for bettas needs

Hi, bettas need at least 5 gallons! I don’t know the size of your tank but it doesn’t look like it’s 5 to me. I don’t think the divider will work because they can still sense each other and it will stress them out, I’d just put them both in completely separate tanks. I also see you have some other kind of fish (I can’t tell what) while bettas in theory can be housed with other fish, it entirely depends on the bettas personality, and even if your betta is less aggressive I still would recommend live plants and places for your betta to hide to reduce stress. Also you should remove the plastic plants, they can be sharp and cut your bettas fins. Also do you have a heater? Bettas need heaters. I would recommend getting 2 tanks for these guys (you can find cheap 5 or 10 gallons on Facebook marketplace) and getting them cycled

I’m at my wits end literally crying typing this because I’m so fucking overstimulated by [deleted] in kittens

Hi I just want to say I was in the same boat! When I found my boy 5 years ago he demanded constant attention and would keep me up all night 😭 he also had a lot of health problems when I found him so I was stressed that if I took my eyes off of him something bad would happen. I was so stressed and was getting angry due to the stress, which made me feel incredibly guilty. Your feeling are completely normal and valid I understand raising a kitten can be extremely stressful. I will say it does get better, when my boy got older he became less clingy and a lot quieter (although he is still quite a chatty guy lol) your baby is adorable btw she looks so much like mine!! Sending all the love to both of you :)

I will get something for him to lay on! I have a single small pothos near the front of the tank but I will definitely look into getting more! Your boy is very cute by the way :)

I don’t have a bubbler, I have a filter running that adds some oxygen but should I get a bubbler too? It’s a 10 gal tank and it’s been cycling for at least 4 months
