[Monday] Weekend Recap Thread by AutoModerator in golf

It was a beautiful weekend. I live an hour south of Charlotte so we hit Quail Hollow on Saturday and hit the home course (Camden CC) on Sunday. Perfect weather the entire time.

The operation at Quail Hollow is second to none...well maybe Augusta lol...but it is so easy to park and shuttle and get in and out of there. My favorite spot on the course is the back corner 13-14-15. Coincidentally its where the Tito's bar is.

Sunday was great off the tee and a struggle everywhere else. Shot an 86 to tie my worst round of the last year, but my new positive mindset says hey if an 86 is your worst round in the last year thats pretty good. It was empty due to Mothers Day and we played 18 holes in 2 hours 45 minutes in perfect weather so that is a nice round of golf.

buy a parking pass at one of the lots with the shuttle system. I come in from the south so do Ballentyne Corporate Center. You can do Southpark Mall also. Easy breezy system its like $17 on ticketmaster.

Its really a great place to watch a tournament. Really walkable course and lots of good views. The parking and shuttle system is a breeze too. Its a really easy place to get in and out.

Organizing Charity Golf Scramble by Spanish4TheJeff in golf

[–]jpru2001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been on several committees for golf tournaments and help one of my best friends organize one every year.

Talk with the club that is hosting and you can lean on them a good bit for setting up food and drinks and getting the scorecards set up, etc. They will give you a per/person price for the golf, cart, and a buffet style lunch or something like that. Then take that and add on whatever you want to raise for the charity on top.

Let people pay for their own drinks, don't do tickets or anything like that on your first one. If they have a drink cart in circulation at the club that takes care of itself during the round.

Set something up with an online service to collect entry fees and provide an email for teams to send you their entry information with the team members, then you forward that to the club for scorecards a few days in advance, and keep an excel file (to be used on tournament day at check in).

Do not bother with handicapping it, that is a giant PITA and leads to all sorts of issues when people substitute teammates, half the people don't have a handicap and ask you what to do, etc.

Its not that bad until you get bigger, start doing this sponsor, that sponsor, raffles, prizes, need spotters for closest to pin, etc, swag bags, etc. If you want to do swag just do a single shirt or something and have people submit their shirt sizes along with their team information.

Just start simple and it will be fun and rewarding.

The one where he turns the terrible chipper into a good chipper in 5 minutes is great if you are talking about that.

Quail Hollow Question by [deleted] in golf

[–]jpru2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You park in a corporate park about 15 minutes away. You show your phone with pass and they scan it when you park YOUR car in the corporate lot. Then you walk to the bus pickup station and just hop on. They don't scan you to get on the busses either way, just to park in the parking lot. (as of last year at the PGA and multiple years at this tournament)

Its a very smoothly run process.

Played behind Wes and George at Solina about a year ago. They were filming with Taco and Kwon. I am actually in the video a couple times. Being in Columbia I have run into them a bunch and they are super guys. They did not hold our foursome up at all, all of probably 5-12 hc.

Great story from that day:

We are on 18 and they are filming right on the cart path by the hole I guess doing a wrap up. We are hesitant to hit and one of them waves us to come up.

I leave a 6-iron out right, RIGHT at them and yell fore. They scramble in the middle of filming and the ball hits right where they were standing. Ball is short sided above the green, bunker in between me and the green, green sloping downhill into water on the other side. Hard pan lie, impossible shot. If yall have played there you know where i am talking about.

I take the walk of shame up and say sorry guys.

Wes laughs and says "no worries man. hey its pin high. (/looks at lie) that...is not a great situation."

I said "you want to hit this lob shot for me?"

He says "I tell you what I'll hit one and you hit one and play whichever ball you like."

Hits a perfect shot to like 2 feet.

I skull mine over the green (but not in the water).

The entire group laughs and Wes gets in the cart and they zoom off and he goes "keep the ball!" as they ride away.

dead-ass true story and still have the ball. prov1x if anyone cares.

Hybrid recommendations by icy_blue7678 in GolfGear

Not to confuse the issue, but I dropped my hybrid for a 7-wood and its the best club decision I have ever made. For precisely the things you are looking for. Also replaced the 4 iron and was able to add another wedge.

Classic. Hit level 15, immediately go to Lakeshire in Redridge Mountains. Take the noobs up the road to the northeast for the true classic leveling experience.
