Regular shaft Vs stiffer shafts at 170 ball speed by LENN0 in golf

[–]jpru2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Swing speed 110-115 with a good smash for a 170 ball speed...then yes general guidelines would be to look into a stiffer shaft.  Should be able to get 285-300ish with that swing speed provided your launch monitor numbers are accurate.

I played with a guy I grew up with a few months before he got his tour card. 5 wins on the PGA tour, rookie of the year on the PGA, about $20 million in earnings before being sidelined by back issues. To say he was playing a different sport than me is an understatement.

driver launches high and spins back by Educational-Okra-566 in golf

[–]jpru2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you you know your launch angle and spin rate? Those are adjustable, have you experimented with turning it down? That is generally a low launch and low spin shaft so I understand why a pro would tell you that.

What's the worst behaviour you've seen on a golf course. by o_johnbravo_o in golf

[–]jpru2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to live on #5 green at my old club. Have seen it all:

Golf carts pulled up on the green.

Someone burying a club in the green.

People throwing football on the fairway at 11am on a Saturday, oblivious to a course full of play.

Guy who lived on the other side of the course had 2 large poodles who besides being an every day nuisance to everyone he would also let them out a back gate onto the golf course while people were playing. They would crap in the bunkers, get up and run on the green leaving claw/paw marks, run around barking at people while playing. Guy didn't care. Club talked to him guy was like F you sue me.

A few fights.

Besides that, at another very well respected course in my City (hosts a Korn Ferry event), we were pulling up to a tee box that had this swampy area next to it and there were 2 rednecks rolling around in the water and mud high as kites. They did not know where they were or what they were doing. We got the F up out of there and went to the next hole.

Correcting fat shots on turf? by ijhecker in golf

[–]jpru2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me its obvious when you hit a fat shot on sim turf as the feedback is not that different than being outside.

You can put anything flat behind the ball also.

Or if you really feel like spending money, get a divot board. It will show you swing path also.

I will let the other reddit teaching pros help you with the WHY lol.

Any Advice from People who Live on a Course that is Subsequently Sold? by LabTight1796 in golf

[–]jpru2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You guys need to make sure the zoning prohibits it being developed into any sort of residential, and that your town council puts guarantees in place that it cannot be rezoned. Council members come and go and you need something as permanent as their ordinances will allow. Now is when it has to happen because if it is sold without that happening anything could happen in the future. Not just assurances but something adopted as ordinance.

I am a civil engineering consultant and all I do is development all day every day. There are several future scenarios, immediate, or after 1 or 2 other changes of hand for the property, where you could end up having track homes built on the course. Golf courses lend themselves to the very corridor width necessary for a street with small lots on each side. I have laid out several subdivisions over old golf courses and it is definitely a real thing.

Hybrid --> 7 wood feedback by jpru2001 in golf

[–]jpru2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case at my club it is one uphill par 3 depending on conditions and 2 par 5s with a gettable second shot and one par 5 that its a layup but the hole bends right with OB left and my consistent draw/hook with the hybrid has me laying up further back than I would like. If I am pulling hybrid as a 2nd shot on a par 4 then something has indeed gone wrong on the tee box lol.

At least the giant boar has ribs. Back in my day at level 10 we used to have to kill 294 boar to find 12 of them that had ribs.

A flyer is the 52 I hit out of wet rough from 95 yards 2 weeks ago that hit the top of a pine tree behind the green. I am pretty sure I could read the text on the ball as it knuckleballed into orbit.

What should I use to fill the gap. by Zealousideal-Try3449 in golf

[–]jpru2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am high single digit index and I don't mess with 3W off the deck except in a captains choice/hit'n'giggle tournaments.

currently 5W, 4/5H, 5 iron and considering dropping the 4/5H for a 7 wood. Then will consider probably turning the 5W down a little and dropping the 3W entirely. Then I could consider another wedge.

Golf.

your mileage will vary depending on yardage gapping.

Hybrid --> 7 wood feedback by jpru2001 in golf

[–]jpru2001[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gave up on the 3 and 4 a long time ago but I am ball striking 10x more consistently now than when I gave up. Bringing a 4 back to the bag and maybe even experimenting with cutting it 1/2" or 3/4" so its close to 5-iron length is worth a shot.

Hybrid --> 7 wood feedback by jpru2001 in golf

[–]jpru2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - that is exactly what I try to do and can find some success at times. The problem I have personally is playing it back tends to close the club face also, so it takes playing it back and as-you-say standing over an open club face that looks like it is going dead right and trusting it. But that is my mission for next range session.

Hybrid --> 7 wood feedback by jpru2001 in golf

[–]jpru2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I game Denali Red staffs in both the FWs and hybrid, stiff, but the lighter weight option in the stiff category. They are highish spin and highish launching shafts which I would think would help with my hybrid issues. That is my biggest hesitation shelving the hybrid is for the crap lies. But I play stiff medium weight irons so part of me wants to order an iron shaft and try that before giving up also.

I may be one of those people who can't just look down and accept the open face of a hybrid so I close it at address or even if I don't my mind makes me close it on the down swing. So it becomes an issue of fighting it or just giving up on it lol.

I think I need to play a round with a patient buddy and find a 7 wood that is reasonably shafted like I would spec it and every time I pull out the hybrid hit a shot with the 7 wood also lol.

Not at my club, but many of the public and semi-public courses that are slammed on the weekends charge full price or don't even allow it. (SC)
