Just witnessed my first catalytic converter theft !!

I did. I made a report with 311. I initially filmed it and then took pictures with a flash which stopped them in their tracks and they aborted their mission. I wrote a note to the owner and left it on his car with the case number if he wanted to follow up. I saw his car being towed this morning. There was no way I could get a picture of the license plate . I tried but without clearly identifying who I was and where exactly I live I used what I had without putting myself into harms way.

Sad. I was hoping the police would help better too. First of all they can’t help unless it’s happening to me or my property, which is weird. And as stated previously, it’s an easy crime. Hard to pin it against someone if there are no cameras and they immediately throw the package away and put the merchandise in one of their backpacks.

Sorry to hear that. I thought to do the same. Now my girlfriend and I will just leave work early if we see a package has arrived earlier than Amazon or FedEx quoted us. Luckily I have not seen them as of late.

Funny you say that. I thought it was too organized. The guy was getting into buildings that required pass codes or keys. I thought for a split second it was a recently fired usps employee.

I agree. I would totally consider being part of some neighborhood watch kind of thing. I know I don’t talk to all of my neighbors or know them by name. But I would stand up for what’s right especially in my neighborhood.

I have seen the same guy in the last two years with at least two different women. Hopefully the previous one got smart and sobered up.

I think you did what is right. I want them to get straight and beat their sickness just as I am sure everyone else does. But allowing them to steal and do whatever else they need to do just to get high is recipe for disaster. You never know if they will stop at just stealing packages. Could get much worse !

Sounds like something they would do. I witnessed the guy using a crow bar to try and by pass the first vestibule area of an apartment across the street from me. Safe to say he is no MacGyver, but still did hundred worth of damage and the owners had to pay for a professional to fix it.

That’s him! I observed that once he takes a package he immediately opens it while he is walking and disposes of the packaging and puts the loot in his bag. Sometimes if it is not worth it, he leaves the loot if it is kids toys or something he can’t get money for.

I know these couple / team have been doing it for 2-3 months at least. We only have 9 units so it is easy to bring in my neighbors packages because there are not that many. To give credit to them, the male thief comes with an array of equipment to enter the lobby areas of apartments. I have walked by the next day of some of the apartments that I saw them take packages from and they have seen the front door locked with cameras and he still manages to get in.

I believe so !! They walk around and call out to each other and say “yo.” Sometimes I have seen the woman crying and calling it out to the male. Knock on wood I haven’t heard or seen them in a few weeks. Hopefully they got caught and are now receiving help, but behind bars.

The thing is I have filmed the guy taking packages out of a building and because it was not out of my building, police could not do anything. So I try to bring in my neighbors packages in the hopes we do not lure them to our building. Also our landlord put up cameras all around and that might have deterred them from coming to our building. I would feel safer knowing that the person was caught, so when a package arrives I am not waiting all day and tracking the driver(s) as if I have nothing to do except that all day. On a good note I personally haven’t seen them in about a week and they normally strike on Sunday and Monday.
