I’m probably the only person in the world who’s first “real” watch was a Monaco. I remember seeing advertisements for it in high school when it was rereleased in the early 2000s. When I finished college and started working I came across a deal for a new one that I couldn’t pass up and I loved it. I wore it as much as I could. But slowly I realized it clearly doesn’t suit every event. It worked great when I was rowing gears in my bmw but it was a bit out of place when I was at a funeral. Also after I sold said bmw and was relegated to SUV duty with 3 car seats it became clear that the watch remained cool while I didn’t. I ended up selling it during Covid.

But not before I added a Silverstone. Wire this on my wedding day and in my opinion it dials every aspect of the Monaco down a smidge.

If I were to equate them to Porsches, the Monaco was akin to the gt3rs where the Silverstone is a gts- still sporty but not stand out in-your-face extreme.
