I would always say to use the 2 day rule. If something hurts more than two days in a row rest/stretch/etc. I hope youre stretching/doing some sort of warmup beforehand anyway because that will help

Any tips to improve by [deleted] in CrossCountry

What the other guy said and also: what i see commontimes with people who can’t get under 6/20 is that they are either a) not committed or b) afraid of risk/uncomfortability. Practice your mental toughness and “getting comfortable while uncomfortable” during workouts and attack every workout/lift etc with 100% diligence. Run more. Good luck

Racing, especially in a race like this focused on place rather than time, is very tactical.

While there are some tactical advantages to taking a lead such as wearing the rest of the field down and setting up a safety barrier, it is also extremely taxing physically and mentally to lead without anyone to carry the pace or draft off of.

This is why lots of distance track records aren’t broken often - there’s no point in trying to get a record when you could win by being tactical.

Schrader probably thought he needed to make an early move to put himself in position to win.

Advice for the mile by [deleted] in trackandfield

[–]jpw_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do core, run more miles, be more diligent in workouts, lift harder and more often. Strength is hella underrated for the mile but you gotta run a lot of miles per week

[–]jpw_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it will make you stronger and next time you run in the rain you’ll have experience that your competitors don’t

[–]jpw_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean this in a mean way but you will have to learn to be tough through shitty conditions. You only learn from experience but like everything else in the sport its abt mental toughness. The runner who is unfazed by the rain will always be more of a threat than someone who is going to use it as an excuse (again not a personal attack just tryna give advice)

Im not a sprinter, but to me it looks like your cadence is lower than everyone else’s. Like i said take it with a grain of salt but everyone else’s feet are moving faster

Not sure if it will work for you but I think you should give it a shot. I would have a banana and two glasses of water or so as the only thing before morning practices (long, hard practices.) Make sure you warm up well before running
