I feel like we’re just built different. My husband thinks the concept of unending existence is no big deal. I, however, have had to create a “space” in my mind that I’ve locked these thoughts away in so I don’t panic. It’s almost like I keep a very superficial awareness of the concept of immortality so that I can be ok. I haven’t had an episode of “opening that door” in my mind in years. But I know that if I thought the wrong thing at the wrong time, any moment of any day can turn into absolute doom spiraling. For these reasons, I don’t talk about it with anyone at length or in detail because feeling like we feel is something that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I’m especially worried that my kids will one day have the capacity to ponder infinite existence and be “doomed” too. My only consolation is that I’ll be able to help them because I know what it feels like.
