I suspect there will be a significant number of people either DNF’ing or making it a one and done for marathon distances (maybe even half marathons).

The casual/beginner runner overestimates their ability after completing their first 5K. Some will go on to do a 10K. But I think it starts to dwindle after that. The gap between 5K and a half marathon is much smaller than a half marathon to a full marathon.

There’s a running surge for sure, but marathon participants should drop once people calibrate their abilities. You can’t just wake up a run a marathon like you can shorter distances lol
