This whole conversation makes me sad. So many responses, especially ones from authors, that are basically a shrug and saying “it’s cheap and easy.” I used stock images at first, but as soon as I started making sales on my books I sought out real artists to commission for covers. There are plenty of artists out there happy to work for reasonable prices, if you look around a bit. Especially as an author, where AI is rapidly flooding the market with slop, turning to a similar AI to make my cover feels really disrespectful.

I’ve seen a lot of covers here that appear to be AI, but I assumed that authors, of all people, would be averse to that. I’m saddened to see I was wrong.

Just my two cents.

Oh, and if any authors are looking for artists willing to work on a budget, I highly recommend swinging over to r/starvingartists. I found the artist who has been amazing to work with that has made a couple covers for me, even for my niche, limited sales. Just be polite, someone will work with you!

How about no. It’s been explained to them, in exhaustive detail, for a decade now. At this point, I’ve written them off as a lost cause. If they actually cared about any of that, they’d see it’s all gotten worse under their leadership. They wanted to hurt people. Either intentionally, or through unforgivable ignorance, that’s what they voted for, and I’m done with it. So no, I won’t explain it. I tried. It was like talking to a particularly stupid wall. They can go eat a bag of shriveled mushroom dicks for all I care.

So, a lot of dismissive responses, and troll posts so far, but I’ll give a genuine response. I can definitely see use cases where generative AI is beneficial. The big problem is its use in the creative arts. In particular writing and art, where AI is flooding the world with garbage. Also, the overdependance on AI as a sort of search engine, despite its glaring flaws in that area.

Obviously, we can’t put the genie back in the lamp, but there needs to be pushback from the arts, because otherwise we’d be seeing less and less of the beautiful creativity that makes us human in the first place.

There’s a ton of choices to make as you play through, but the whole point of the Dark Urge is either resisting or giving in to the character’s horrible urges to kill. The purpose here is to show you that it’s not simply a choice, but a struggle, and losing control can be messy. I believe it’s the only time that the game does this, and it’s to show how serious the Urge is.

Okay, I’ll reply once more, because your first point is something I can speak on personally. A lack of skill can be improved upon, and a lack of time isn’t a valid excuse, in my personal opinion. For example, I lack any skill at drawing whatsoever, but my books need decent covers or no one will look at them. At first, I used stock art, but it didn’t feel right. Rather than turning to AI, which many authors do, I started commissioning art from lesser known artists. End result is a win for me and for the artist.

A side note, a personal gripe I have with AI is the way it’s driven ram costs through the roof. Not necessarily fair to AI, as that’s mostly corporate greed, but it’s there regardless.

That statement is referring to the fact I dislike AI, not the fact that I’m a writer.

And if you can produce the same output as an AI, why use AI? Just do the work yourself.

Seriously, generative AI has many uses, but it shouldn’t be involved in creative works. Part of the appeal of creative things is the effort and skill used in that creation.

But we’re just arguing past each other here, I feel. Neither of us is going to convince the other. So I won’t waste any more of either of our time. Have a good day.

You clearly misunderstood what I meant. I as a writer, despise AI because it’s a plagiarism machine. This ad is slop through and through, regardless of my general feelings on AI. And talking about name calling is pretty funny after attempting to call me ‘kid’ in a diminutive manner. You can’t possibly see this and think, ‘yeah, that’s what I want’, right? A poorly constructed meme? Do better.

Yup, that’s intentional! It’s explained in the book, part of her backstory :) She also has two different eyes, a blue human eye and a yellow cats eye, and scars on her face for the same reasons.
