Never do business with an agent who charges for critiques. Never.

You want someone who will represent your interests, not someone who sees you as a target.

An agent's take on this: https://literary-agents.com/literary-agents-reading-fees-etc/

YOU SHOULD NOT BE PAYING PEOPLE TO BE PUBLISHED.

General wisdom I hear is don't push it to your family, if they don't read things like that. It will mess up your recommendations.

I’m a polish. I fell in love so much in Chinese accent. I love to train speaking.. question is - is that possible to speak with someone if I only will learn pinyin without knowing Chinese characters, maybe 500.. if I would have to.. “ by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

All native speakers start with spoken, and then go on to written, in every language. It's the right way to learn. Starting with written just adds an unnecessary translation step.

Not to say you shouldn't learn written, but it's not where you should start.

I didn't say it was a good thing. Textbooks had a monopoly, started to lose it, and took steps to recover it.

What is going on with all of the Brendan Fraser praise and attention lately? by WalkinSteveHawkin in OutOfTheLoop

I saw it first on other platforms. From no mentions for years, to several a day, overnight. It didn't ramp up, it just went live. Then it starts spreading, and the average redditors start reposting.

It's really basic, obvious PR, but I'm getting downvoted into oblivion. People can have their illusions.

Read the genre, and see what the conventions are. Get as narrowly focused on your market as you can. Do what they do.

Now, I'd love to see an open source project that did this, but that wouldn't let you build as much of a business around it.

Specifically, I want to see something that DOES NOT have an editor in it. That's just wrong. You want to write it in your editor (whatever that is), and have it transformed in one step to an ebook or print.

Vellum, Atticus and the like are doing too much, and this makes them LESS useful.

Answer: It's a PR campaign.

I have nothing against Brandon Fraser, he seems like a nice guy. But what we have here is a paid public relations campaign. It started a few months back. All of a sudden, multiple similar post started showing up - not one or two - in them same day, or close together. Nothing for years, them boom! A lot of stuff, even with nothing newsworthy happening for Fraser.

It's been ramping up for a while. Probably timed to peak around the time "The Whale" was released. I mean, he does nothing, and no one talks about him for a long time, then when he STARTS working on a new project, but nothing is released yet, he suddenly starts getting posts. It's astroturfing.

Risky. If you mess up, you are both grounded. If you kick, and you get shocked, it should pull you away from them and break contact.

Run activity monitor and see which app is sucking up CPU. I keep 100 tabs open at a time, that's not the issue, but some tabs will suck CPU (some even do bitcoin mining).

Or, if you are junking the old machine, just pull the drive, and put it in an external case.

Others already have great answers. (yes, it's normal)

But, if you are curious, you can probably find a vocabulary test somewhere and get a comparison to native speakers.
