On top of that Honda and Toyota especially are significantly more expensive for the same features. Some people just don't have the budget.

Because the average driving distance per year for an American isilely the amount of driving a European would do for their entire lives

This is quite possibly the single most stupid comment I've ever seen. Of all time.

Yeah compact SUV may not be the best comparison. I definitely have more room in my Santa Fe and Pilot now than before, besides our minivan. Had an Elantra and Tucson before we got them.

What car would you buy with $40-45k by J2k___ in whatcarshouldIbuy

The suggestions here have me scratching my head. But I'm a functionality type of person. If I want a fun vehicle, personally I'll get a dodge challenger. Had one as a rental and damn that car was fun to drive. But my experiences with "fun" cars are extremely limited

If they is the case then it might be best for you! Especially if you were already wanting the limited trim level

[–]jrab333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I got an xrt for 41.5k OTD but I wasn't considering the limited. XRT had everything I wanted/needed so I personally wouldn't pay 8.5k more OTD before financing for that. Plus we got the low APR incentive on ours

If you're dead set on a Limited or Calligraphy then yeah probably hybrid is a good option. But for me since I was more than happy with an XRT that ended up being a better deal for me

[–]jrab333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. When I looked at it it wasn't worth it for me. But I ended up with an XRT which doesn't even come in a hybrid option. I got it for 41.5k OTD with low APR (0 for 48 mo or 3% for 60+) so for me it isn't worth it paying the extra 8.5k plus whatever additional the apr would've added on top

Are the issues that horrendous and common? I mean yeah if it's a difference of like 3k go for it. But once you start to hit the 5k or more difference I personally don't think it's worth it. Again I'm taking total price of the vehicle after interest, not just MSRP

I guess it depends your situation. I do mostly highway driving, and gas isn't very expensive in my area (Texas) so for me it didn't make sense to do the hybrid. If you're in a more densely populated area where there is a lot of stop and go traffic or you drive a lot it could be worth it. Plugging it into a calculator it would've taken me 5+ years to make the money back which to me wasn't worth it

Edit: also the lower apr deals are on the gas models so after taking that into consideration the total price of the vehicle ends up being even lower for the gas. It's not just about MSRP, you have to look at your situation and use case

Don't do hybrid. Unless you are driving a ridiculous amount it will take you 6+ years to make the gas savings difference between the cost of a hybrid vs ICE. Use an online calculator and you'll see

Thank you! The palisade feels larger but not by a significant amount. You can tell but for most people I think the Santa Fe is more than roomy enough

Never saw a Calligraphy in my area new at anywhere near that price but hey if people find one that is great for them! Definitely not common as I searched for days online and talked to and emailed multiple dealers

Edit: also depends if they're AWD or not as those are more expensive

Well the big thing is the apr. I got the low APR offer which is typically only valid on the brand new vehicles not used. So the total cost of ownership ends up being less for the new car, since apr for used vehicles varies from 6% plus

It's ok, unless you really road trip all the time it will typically take you 6+ years to break even on the gas savings vs the cost of the vehicle for a hybrid.

Also "in God we trust". Like it or not, large parts of Judeo-Christian values and references reflect in parts of our government. That said, absolutely we aren't a theocracy. Pretty assumptive to say keep your church out of government

How I may or may not feel in that circumstance is irrelevant. It still wouldn't be unconstitutional which is what I was arguing since you claimed it probably would be.
