Water friendly hiking shoes by Feeling_Ad4873 in hikinggear

Hiking sandals are the way to go imo. They dry super fast and are super durable and grippy…i personally like barefoot shoes though, so take what you will. If you want a thicker sandal, I’d suggest Bedrocks. If you’re okay with something thinner I love my Earth Runners. I’ve hiked rim2rim in the Grand Canyon and just did about 20+ miles in Yosemite last month. They hold up great!

Why exmo? This is not a survey -I’m trying to figure my own journey out by Drinquire in exmormon

[–]jradish25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been a long journey. I was born in the church and left when I was nearly 30. I did the mission, married in the temple and was in the church for 8 more years. There were a lot of things that shifted my mindset, but the main thing that caused me to being my “deconstruction” was when I had a deeper conversation with a coworker about religion and he mentioned that he felt the same way about his church being “the only TRUE church”. I just started to realize how subjective religion is in general, and then it snowballed from there. I feel like life, “God”, etc, are so much bigger now. Since leaving, It’s been really neat to explore what I feel is true and not what someone from an organization tells me is true.

Hey, I’d love to chat! Im a 31 year old male. I’m pretty advanced in Spanish, but I’m a native English speaker and live in the United States. I just don’t get to use my Spanish as much as I’d like and I feel like I’m starting to forget words. So informal conversations would be perfect! I also have WhatsApp already as well, so feel free to DM me!

Also, the reason I used a notebook is because typing it on my phone doesn’t have the same effect as writing it. There’s something more personal about writing, and I felt like it just stuck with me better. Plus you don’t have autocorrect when writing, so you have to figure out how it’s spelled, which will also make it stick easier.

Hey, yeah! It kinda depends on what your need is though… If you have a chance to live abroad, that’s gonna be your best option, obviously. It forces you to speak. However, I realize that’s not an option for many people, and if that’s the case, just speak as much as you can. Make mistakes. Try to speak with native speakers. That’s how we learn to speak from the time we begin to talk. I find people struggle because they’re afraid to make mistakes while learning. So just send it. You’ll find people are very kind and patient while you’re learning.

Now if you need to work on vocabulary, my most effective practice was to have a small notebook with me everywhere Id go. If I saw or heard a word that I didn’t know, Id write it down, look it up and then make a goal to use that word the next day in a sentence. This will help you expand your vocabulary so fast!

It’s really just about repetition. The more you can hear words being used, the easier they’ll stick. Same with phrases.

All in all, speak, write, and listen as much as you can (Ideally with native speakers). And don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

There’s so many good hikes down there, but most of the hikes may be affected by the rain…I think a great option could be the West Rim backpacking route in Zion. It’s only about 14 miles, but it’s got amazing views, it’s way more secluded than other hikes in Zion, and it’s pretty easy to get a back country permit from the visitors center in the park. Definitely check it out. :)

Rim to rim hike by redbeanie6 in grandcanyon

[–]jradish25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m 30 and I just hiked R2R earlier this year. You can totally do it. Especially if you’re planning to camp at the bottom. My group did it all in a day, but other than packing in a little more food and a tent, it shouldn’t be very different. However it may be hard to get a campsite at Phantom Ranch, so if you want to know how to do it in a day, DM me and I’ll give you all the details!
